I’ve never had one of these before so I don’t really know how to compare it to others. I see other reviewers saying it doesn’t spin well. I can honestly say it doesn’t spin great but it does spin. It has 2 speeds one is not at all and the other is slowly. I live in Washington state so it’s not like I’ve had great weather to check if it ever really takes off but it’s been nice enough I felt it would be faster. That being said it’s really not that expensive and it seems decently made for the price. It’s fun and people notice it. It would be a great starter radiometer for you to decide whether to spend more money to get a nicer version. As a decorative piece I’m perfectly content with this and kids like it as is. Whether it’s a gift for someone or for yourself this seems like an affordable way to get started.

Radiometer is fun to watch — put in sun or shine a light to watch it spin. Looks cool as is and even cooler when spinning. Great addition to window, mantle, desk, etc. Interesting talking piece or science discussion. Lightweight. Does what it is intended to do. Great to keep or gift

I owned one of these as a child, and I loved it, so I ordered the Crookes Radiometer Solar Power Spinning Vanes Glass Windmill for my children. This one is smaller and flimsier than the one I owned as a child since the entire body is made of glass, whereas the model I owned as a child had a larger, heavier base. I don't mind those differences at all. What I do mind, however, is that this one does not work very well. The one I had as a child would spin quite rapidly in direct sunlight. I can barely get this one to spin, much less spin with any speed. Admittedly we don't get a ton of sun in the pacific northwest, but even in direct sunlight, the vanes only barely spin. Disappointed.

I ordered this radiometer because my old one had broken. This one appears really elegant; everything is made of transparent glass, as if it came from a science lab. It is fragile, so keep this in mind if you have young children or pets in your home. It works great and is even sensitive to the flashlight light.Overall, it is an excellent radiometer! Thanks!

My wife picked this out, as she had one when she was young, and she loves it. Placed in a window, it spins pretty fast on its own. There's no complicated set up or building process. It's just set and let it do its thing. Would make for a fun gift for the little science fan in your life.

Adorable talking piece for the kitchen/home. I’ve already gotten compliments on it and people questioning what it is and I’ve only had it a day! But it’s adorable and sits well with the plants and other paperweights.

It's clear, it works, it's not the prettiest due to flaking on the vanes (which the box even says will happen) but the reason this item is losing a star is it's extremely light and what weight it has is in the top, which makes this very delicate item very easy to knock over and potentially break. They really needed to add a slight weight to the base or something. If you planned to use this to demonstrate the effect to kids, be warned it'll get knocked over, guaranteed. If you planned to use it as a decoration, then you need to find a good spot out of the way where nothing might bump it or shake it.
