About this item

  • DEPENDABLE STRENGTH. This ball hitch is constructed from high-strength steel and is rated to tow up to 5,000 pounds gross trailer weight and 500 pounds tongue weight in the drop position (rise position: 3,500 lbs. GTW, 350 lbs. TW)
  • VERSATILE USE. This trailer hitch ball mount comes with a 2-inch x 2-inch shank to fit virtually any industry-standard 2-inch receiver. The ball mount also has a 8-inch drop and 6-inch rise to promote level towing
  • READY TO TOW. Hitching up your trailer is easy with this 2-inch ball mount. It features a 1-inch hole to accept a trailer hitch ball with a 1-inch diameter shank (trailer ball sold separately)
  • CORROSION-RESISTANT. For long-lasting use, this ball hitch is protected with a durable black powder coat finish, easily resisting damage from rain, dirt, snow, road salt and other corrosive threats
  • EASY TO INSTALL. To install this class 3 hitch ball mount on your vehicle, simply insert the shank into your vehicle's 2-inch hitch receiver. The rounded shank makes installation easy. Then, secure the shank in place with a hitch pin (sold separately)

CURT class 3, or standard-duty, ball mounts are a step up from classes 1 and 2. They feature a 2" x 2" shank and have a higher weight capacity for towing heavy-duty trailers, including utility trailers, boat trailers, campers, single-horse livestock trailers and most recreational vehicle trailers. With class 3 trailer hitches being the most common type of trailer hitch for pickup trucks and SUVs, the class 3 ball mount, by association, is an excellent complement to this trailer hitch and these larger vehicles (NOTE: Never exceed the lowest weight capacity of any towing component; i.e. the vehicle, hitch, trailer, etc). This particular class 3 ball mount can be used in the drop position to provide a drop of 8", a gross trailer weight capacity of 5,000 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs. It can also be flipped to provide a rise of 6", a gross trailer weight capacity of 3,500 lbs. and a tongue weight capacity of 350 lbs. It features a length of 11-1/2". Class 3 ball mounts are CNC-formed and robotically welded to ensure unwavering precision and dependable strength in each and every unit. We mechanically descale each one to provide a smooth surface for a long-lasting finish. This class 3 ball mount comes with a durable gloss black powder coat finish to protect against corrosion, scratches, UV damage and more to give it the thick skin it needs to face the road ahead.

I have a 10 inch drop and now this 8. The 10 has been used on my old dodge since 2006. If your towing smaller trailers these are perfect and inexpensive. Cheaper to have one for each vehicle than buying a fancy adjustable hitch when you don’t need one. I have a fancy load right hitch also rated at 13000lbs but these are lighter and easier to carry for towing 5000 or less. At less than 55 bucks total with a new ball you can’t beat them. My 18 year old one still looks good and is plenty strong.

The blame would go to Amazon warehouse shipping department for sending this in less than perfect condition. The product itself is Awesome

The tube on this could be an inch longer. It rubs against my bumper. So I took an angle grinder and removed a small countoured bite out of the triangular reinforcing plate. Now it fits my 2015 Caravan nicely and does not contact the bodywork.

Used on my 2005 Sienna with a Curt receiver. Top inside of my receiver was 10" above ground and I wanted the 6" rise to get up toward 17" total. There are no standards, but my goal was to use Home Depot trailers (and maybe U-Haul 4x8 Box trailer) and when I stopped at store I measured the trailers at about 17-18". Used with Curt 40004 ball and with the Curt 45007 sleeve as there are no indents or tabs on this mount to keep ball from rotating as it is tightened. The Curt 45007 tongue sleeve worked perfect (albeit pricy) and was able to install and remove balls with one wrench. There has been some reviews that expected Curt products to be made in USA. I can confirm that all the Curt products I bought: the 45090 mount, 40002/40004 ball, the 23590 anti-rattle kit, the 45007 sleeve, and the 20001 wrench are made overseas (mostly China). Black powder coat is nice, but is is chipped/scratched/damaged in many places as these mounts are not individually boxed. I fully expect it to start rusting immediately once exposed to elements. On the other hand, I don't leave it attached, but keep it in a hitch tote bag in the trunk. With 2" ball mounted I was just able to squeeze into the Classic Accessories 74877 Hitch Tote, but most definitely pushing the tote over the recommended limit. All that said, I was prepping for a future tow and I haven't confirmed that my choice of 6" rise is correct for the 2005 Sienna application.
