Adds humidity to my Uke in the case. Have to soak the sponge overnight to loosen it up, first.

This is a great idea, but I have to spread the middle two strings apart too far to use it as planned on a concert sized ukulele!I'll still use it in the case. I don't want to put pressure on the strings. The sponge is different than any product I've tried. You really do have to soak it awhile before it softens at all. Assume it will also release the moisture more slowly than the others.

Buy a flight humidifier (under £3) its same thing but much cheaper. I found this out after I'd purchased this unfortunately.

It's a simple concept, just a piece of foam in a holey plastic container, but it works great. If you have a decent case, you only need to soak it every few weeks where I am (upstate NY with dry heaters everywhere I go). There's a little gap between the cap and container that gets caught in the strings, but it's hardly a bit deal if you're careful.

Sits nicely in ukulele. Easy to moisten the sponge the once or twice a week required (depending on where you live). Performs as advertised- Holds quite a bit of moisture and doesn't drip into the instrument (Read the instruction to wring the sponge out a little bit before putting it in your instrument. Quality product that I will definitely purchase more of when needed for other ukuleles.

I own over 30 ukuleles, and thus over 30 humidifiers, and I like this the best of all of the humidifiers I have tried, including the yellow and blue Oasis (OH-18) tube-shaped model with crystals, the Planet Waves small instrument humidifier with a regular sponge, and the Music Nomad humilele, which is similar to this model and also uses a hydrophilic sponge. When compared to the Oasis, this model is quicker and easier to refill with water. The Oasis requires the use of a syringe and care must be taken to not overfill the tube and spill the gel within. I fill my humidifiers weekly and none of them are completely depleted. It is easier to top off this humidifier than it is to top off the Oasis tube humidifiers due to the likelihood of overflow. This model is also superior to the Oasis because the crystals in the Oasis will eventually need to be replaced or replenished, whereas all this humidifier needs is a good soaking to rejuvenate it. Replacement crystal kits are readily available, but buying them gets expensive when you have as many humidifiers to replenish as I do. Also, it is possible to damage or destroy the Oasis humidifier if it dries up completely with the crystals inside. There is no danger of that with this model. I have also had some Oasis humidifiers that eventually develop leaks after several years of use, which I have to discard. So, the D’Addario humidifier is easier to fill and maintain, has better longevity, and is cheaper to maintain than the Oasis humidifier, in my opinion and experience. When compared to the Planet Waves small instrument humidifier, which uses a regular sponge, I also find this humidifier easier to refill. For the Planet Waves model, I have to wet the sponge, and then guess how much water to squeeze out since leaving the sponge too wet can result in leakage through the holes of the container. The sponge in this D’Addario humidifier is easy to wet and does not require squeezing. I just wet the sponge, remove it from the water, shake off the excess water, and pop it back in the container. Couldn’t be simpler! When compared to the Music Nomad humilele, the two humidifiers are the same as far as ease of refilling, but I find that the sponge in this humidifier tends to stay moist longer than the sponge in the similar Planet Waves model. The only benefit of the Planet Waves model over this model is that it has a flip top that is easier to open and close. I have noticed that the Music Nomad humilele tends to dry out faster than this D’Addario model, perhaps because of the flip top, in addition to the larger holes in the container. The only downside of this model is that it does not fit in ukuleles that lack a standard sound hole. In that situation, I simply place the humidifier in the case. The humidifier container has rounded edges, so I feel confident it will not knick my ukuleles. The only other issue I have noticed with this D’Addario humidifier is that the sponge is very hard upon arrival has to be soaked for several hours before it absorbs enough water to be used. I have tested all three of these humidifiers in hard cases with hygrometers, and they all seem to work equally well. I have switched to using this D’Addario humidifier as my default humidifier for new and replacement humidifiers due to the ease of refilling, its longevity, price, and performance. FYI - I live in the United States, in Oklahoma, and I use humidifiers during the winter when I heat my house. The sponge in this model is still pretty damp most weeks when I refill it after 7 days of use.

I like the removable top. It makes it quick and easy to add water to the sponge. The humidifier appears to work well. I have two laminate ukuleles and neither seems to suffer any ill effects from our lack of humidity in Colorado. I keep both in their gig bags and each has one of these humidifiers. I refill them about once a week.

Was apprehensive to purchase due to comments about it not functioning well. I have not had any problems with it. You have to soak it in water for about 20 minutes or so initially or when it is really dried out but then it is the perfect amount of sponginess to absorb the water but not so spongy that the water leaks out. You can literally pull the sponge out of the water and a few drops of water might fall but then it holds it all in, as long as you don’t squeeze all the water out. Some reviews have stated that it needs re-wetted every 1-2 days. I live in southern Colorado where it is super dry and so far my sponge has been holding water for at least 4 days or more. I play my uke quite often so not sure I haven’t tried much longer than that yet.

relatively easy to set up. Was interesting that some arrived still damp (from manufacturer I presume) and most arrived totally dried out. The dried out ones did give me a chance to run through a maintenance cycle anyways. Simple enough -- drop them in bowl of distilled water. A step that I might have missed in the manual or instructions -- squeeze out excess water? On one of these humidifiers, the sponge continued to drip out of the holder. Took sponge out and squeezed out some water and reassembled. I'm sure that will be fine.

Does the job for a reasonable price. My house is a little dry in the winter and I wanted to protect my uke. I checked with a hygrometer inside my case and the humidifier was working great. The dense foam sponge inside holds moisture for quite a while. I have the cheaper version with the regular sponge for a guitar and it dries out quickly. I definitely recommend the pro version unless you're checking the sponge daily.
