I was so thrilled to find this wonderful set. The darning egg and handle are solid wood, appears to be beechwood and is very smooth and solid. The loom setup is quality metal and wood, the perfect arrangement for just about anything. Darning can extend the life of garments, but this is also for decoration and embellishment. The pincushion is on a solid wood base as well, and the design of the fabric on the pincushion is random; mine is a very pretty vintage-y fabric. The needles and all the implements are great quality, and the darning thread is plentiful and in a rainbow of colors. There is an instruction sheet, and it's very helpful but quite minimal, so I'll be seeking out more instruction online to master this lost art. My mother used to darn everything, socks using a lightbulb and regular thread. This will be much more enjoyable, but still a way to honor that tradition. Highly recommend this set.

Especially for a beginner this is a good mini set to learn on. All lightweight and easy to use items,. Easy to hold and darn.
