This is the perfect tool for re-pointing your mortar joints. I've been using this for a block-wall foundation in my 1950's basement. The 3/16" size gets into smaller joints than my other chisels. The narrow portion of the chisel makes up ~1/3 of the length, allowing it to reach deeper into narrow joints. The metal is of high quality, I haven't experienced any wear or chips on the cutting edge and no deformation on the striking area from my hammer. It's made of alloy steel in the sweet USA!

Just what I needed to remove mortar from broken/chipped bricks.

I spent a week taking out all the brick and resetting and adding new mortar between the brick on the steps and platform of our front porch. A grinding wheel and this chisel were my best buddies doing this job. After the work was finished, the chisel looked like it had hardly been used. Good price and quality.

Used a number of times. And it held up for removal of mortar from between bricks to install a electrical box. Lesson learned remove whole brick then cut to size.

Nice heft, very strong, quality steel.Blade fits into mortar gaps well.I like how the head does not mushroom after a lot of hits, it is high quality design and material.I like it.I just wish I could find a hand guard for it as I have slipped a few times and whacked my thumb with the hammer - my fault, not the chisels, but a plastic hand guard would be awesome.

Used to pick out 4 day old mortar, worked exactly as I had imagined. Sturdy with the perfect angle, nice sharp edges that are useful for scraping mortar missed when chiseling. Unfortunately had to use this a lot😂 however would recommend to anybody who is hard on tools and expects the best.

It handles really well to bust joints. From old lime mortar, to robust recent joints, it's perfect to get the job done fairly quickly without using powertools. Recommended for any job of repointing that requiers an attention to detail on complex and fragile elements, such as clay brick or sandstone.

Tough little chisel. Not quite the size that I'm used to but I lost that one ages ago. I would have preferred one that was 1/4" thick which is closer to what the mortar joints were that I've run into. Only tip I can give is to remember that your hammer drill is your friend. Far easier to clean out a mortar joint that has been largely drilled out with close spaced holes. Then you can simply drive it in hole by hole. But it also depends on why your removing the mortar. I've usually had to do it in order to create a hole in wall but keep the brick for reuse as when I've created openings for new doors or windows, or my latest project, a doggy door through a brick wall for my daughters new pet.

I purchased this plugging chisel to clean out deteriorated mortar joints prior to tuckpointing. The design of the chisel tip allows for precise mortar removal and reduces the chance of binding which can cause bricks to be unintentionally dislodged. It made quick work of it and when combined with use of a cold chisel, produced excellent results. As an added bonus, this chisel is MADE IN THE USA and the quality shows.Good example of where using the right tool for the job makes a difference.
