About this item

  • We sewed the 14mm 400-Mile Pad into the short, versus on top of the short. This allows the pad to stretch more, and float; which means it can be used as a race piece in triathlon. On the bike, the pad stretches with the short and follows your skin as it moves with every pedal stroke, eliminating the friction that can cause irritation or rashes. Pad offers odor resistant properties that won't wash out over time.
  • 11-panel bike short made of Forza Compressor fabric ensures a perfect fit, and targeted muscle support. 3-inch Mobius Comfort Compression leg bands keep shorts in place without excess squeezing (no elastic!)
  • Hi-rise, elastic waist and adjustable drawstring keeps the short up, and protects you from low back sun exposure. Curvilinear seamlines and contrast flatstitch highlight panel construction, create an attractive appearance and are extremely durable. Seamless inner thigh eliminates friction against saddle and thighs.
  • 3 pockets: one one each outer thigh and one center back pocket that fit cell phones, smart phones, fuel packets, and most sunglasses
  • Enviro-friendly and completely free of solvents. Not recommended for repeated use in a chlorinated pool. Made in USA. PLEASE REFER TO THE SIZE IMAGE ON THE LEFT FOR ACCURATE SIZING GUIDANCE. Front Rise: Small 9”, Medium 9.5”, Large 10”, X-Large 10.5” Back Rise: Small 15”, Medium 15.5, Large 16, X-Large 16.5"

Product Description

Emilio gave these shorts and bibs the "400-Mile" name from product testing consisting of 400 miles over 4 days. His logic was that many shorts feel fine for 100+ mile rides. The real question is how does that saddle feel when you get on the bike the next morning for another 100 miles...and the next morning? This was the inspiration for the design, the pad, and the name.

  • 14mm Clasico 400-Mile Pad is sewn into the short. On the bike, the pad stretches with the short and follows your skin as it moves with every pedal stroke, eliminating the friction that can cause irritation or rashes. It's a quick drying pad and is recommended for triathlon use.
  • Seamless inner thigh eliminates friction against saddle and thighs
  • 11-panel bike short for a percise fit made of Forza Compressor Fabric for complete muscle support.
  • 3-inch two-piece Mobius Comfort leg-bands to keep the short in place without excess squeeze.
  • Shorter Leg Length than other brands: Have you seen the length of the bibs that riders have been wearing in Europe lately, especially in the Grand Tours? As opposed to most brands here in the states, which come just above the knees, our 400-Mile Bibshorts are comfortably shorter like those currently used by the pros in the Grand Tours, and they have no gripper elastic, yet stay in place and do not bind the legs. Inseam measurements listed with the size chart below.
  • Midsection Support – Our short comes up a bit higher on the waist than other brands, to cover and tuck in the obliques and abdomen. This offers a slimmer appearance and nice support around the mid-section.
  • Drawcord and elastic waistband holds the short in place.
  • 3 pockets: one on each outer thigh and one center back pocket that fits smart phones, fuel packets, and most sunglasses. If you never use them, you will never know they are there. But you will wonder how you could have lived without them.
  • Curvilinear seamlines for riding comfort and contrast flatstitch.
  • This innovation is completely free of solvents.
  • Not recommended for repeated use in a chlorinated pool.
  • Made in the USA

Mobius Comfort Compression

A Mobius Strip is a surface with only one side and one boundary. Mobius Comfort is our new form-fitting, yet non-binding compressive fabric. The knit we created when blending fibers make repeated mobius loops so that the same surface, stretch, and rebound is on both sides of the fabric and in equal direction. You will notice comfort and support without constriction, opacity without unnecessary weight, and durability from a very smooth surface on both sides. In addition to this bib made entirely of this fabric, you will find Mobius Comfort Leg Bands on all our trishorts, bike shorts, and bib shorts.

Forza Compressor

This amazing fabric lifts and supports muscles to dampen the vibration due to dynamic flexion and extension, as well as isometric flex during exercise. De Soto was the first company to produce compression garments in 1997. Since then we have offered Forza Products that have helped thousands of triathletes win as well as improve on their personal best. Research findings from extensive university studies show the Forza Compressor fabric used in our garments help to improve athletic performance by delaying the onset of fatigue by as much as 12%, and by giving an improved sense of body position. We assemble the garments of this fabric with proprietary articulated stitching techniques that maximize comfort and fit while minimizing constriction and drag. The result is the best fitting and highest quality product that money can buy. Consider each Forza garment as an “exterior ligament” for your body!

CHEST - Fullest part of breast, measured as the largest part of circumference right over the pectoral muscle.

WAIST - Circumference measured at the belly-button line - this is NOT the same as your pants waist size.

HIPS - Circumference measured at the widest point, NOT at your hips where your belt may go. Typically this will measure just a few inches below your hip bones and around the largest part of the glutes.

If you do not have a tape measure and you need something to measure with, use a belt, or smart phone power cord, and a ruler.

These padded shorts are the best I’ve owned in 15yrs of mtb riding. No more sore sit bones after riding. I also got a Desoto narrow seat pad and the combo is perfect- zero discomfort during or after riding. They blow away Castelli and Pearl Izumi shorts and bibs.

crazy expensive compared to what I have, but they are comfortable when I ride in my extremely hard saddle. hopefully they will last and remain comfortable the entire time. I only have about 100 miles on them so far. *cost is the missing 5th star

I have purchased many shorts over the last ten years of cycling more than 80,000 miles. Some good, some not. These are among the best I have used. In the end, the shorts are only on part of the equation for the long endurance rides of 100 to 200 miles in a day. I expect these to do very well on those century rides as they have done on the shorter 60-70 mile rides so far, especially on the back-to-back days. The sweating wicking action on these is also very good because of the construction and the thick padding keeps from getting saturated. They are very expensive for cycling shorts, but that should not be a big concern because good shorts should last a long time if you take care of them and you won't ride if you are not comfortable. I think these are great shorts, but maybe an overkill for the casual rider, but if you don't mind the cost, why not be as comfortable as is possible. As a side, I want to add that the saddle is a bigger part of the endurance comfort equation. If your saddle is not right, no short is going to compensate. So, people who are looking to solve saddle discomfort should evaluate both items.

The 400-Mile Shorts have been a favorite for going on a year. They are still in great condition. I spend roughly 95% of my rides in the saddle and ride distances up to 50 miles on the weekends. I ride a Madone SLR with Arvada Elite saddle which does not offer any comfort, so a well padded chamois is a must. The 14mm pad in these shorts has been great. There one additional feature to these shorts I absolutely love, the leg pockets. They are the perfect side for GU Gels with an unexpected benefit. Keeping the GU Gels in the leg pocket warms them up which makes the gel a little thinner and easier to consume.

I have done three Ironman triathlons using these shorts. Can’t swim in them but I did bike and run the marathon. After 7 years I’m getting back into Tri and looking to buy these again. Amazing comfort!!!

Somewhat new to the tri world. A friend highly recommend these shorts. They are amazing!! Today was the first time I've biked and not had a sore butt. Everyone kept saying I would get used to it. A few months in, I was still sore. I rode 30 miles today (longest ride yet), and it was comfortable. I also ran 4 miles afterward in the shorts. No problems there either. I'm really happy with the product. I haven't tried them swimming yet because they recommend not using these in a chlorinated pool. It's all I have access to at the moment. Seriously, worth every penny.
