I hear these go out a lot. I only needed one, but picked up the 2 pack to keep one onboard. I have had it installed for a few weeks and it seems to be working fine. Fixed my weird high idle issue

I liked that they fit worked for 2 months but failed both motors drain the batteries trying to start. Mind you it has four blue top optima’s. Of course no warranty never buy this product.

Got a IAC output low warning on my 496HO inboard while underway. Once back to the dock, found the old one actually melting and stuck closed. Replaced both engine Idle Air Control valves with these. Alarm went away and engines idle beautifully at 700 rpm. Took 15 minutes to change both.

I purchased two of these. Neither one worked correctly. One had the idle too high, 850 instead of 650, and the other one had the idle rev up and down from 250rpm to 500 rpm. Sent them both back.

If you have a Mercruiser 5.0 MPI or similar engine you should keep a spare IAC on hand. These IAC valves can fail quickly and leave you stranded. It takes about 2 minutes to change one with an allen wrench. Happened to me twice.Update Nov 2023: I have had 4 of these IAC valves fail on my mercruiser 5.0 over the years. I kept all the failed units. 2 were this brand from Amazon, one was the OEM and the other was purchased at an auto store. I analyzed the four failed IACs which I kept. The resistance reading on the coil read low on two of the IACs. It should be about 10.5 ohms and two read at 2.5. The other two had good resistance readings however the shaft is stuck in the closed position. It should be open when you have the IAC off the engine. Not certain what caused this as the mechanism is sealed inside the body of the coil assembly. Everything else lots fine. I always change the muffler in the throttle body but they are usually rather clean and are not the problem. You can clean the mufflers with soap and water.In only one case did I get the two beep notification on the engine so don't count on that to tell you if it is the IAC. In one case the engine would idle but only very rough. It would only idle smooth when the engine was at full temp. I did not think this was caused by the IAC but it worked fine once I changed the IAC. This design is no longer used and for good reasons. It has high failure rate. I keep an extra IAC on the boat with an allen wrench in the same box and if I have an engine problem it is the first thing I change since it is so quick and simple.Other than the IAC failures my Mercruise 5.0 has been a good running engine. I did have to change the distributor cap and rotor. Stay with OEM parts or automotive OEM parts and you will be fine.
