About this item

  • Form-A-Shield can be applied directly to hot surfaces to help lower under hood temperatures
  • Formed from 10 mil dimpled aluminum bonded to a high temperature-rated basalt thermal barrier material
  • Withstands direct heat up to 1400°F
  • Durable and resistant to oil and chemical spills
  • Extremely pliable and forms to many shapes and configurations

Form-A-Shield solves the problem of needing a direct contact, extreme heat barrier. Capable of withstanding direct heat of up to 1400°F, Form-A-Shield can be applied to exhaust headers, manifolds, turbo housings, and downpipes dramatically reducing radiant exhaust temperatures. Formed from 10 mil dimpled aluminum bonded to a high temperature rated basalt thermal barrier material, Form-A-Shield can be applied directly to hot surfaces helping to lower under hood temperatures while keeping more heat in the exhaust system.

I found a particularly hot spot on the floor of my classic car while I was playing with my new laser thermometer, I cut one of these in half and placed it between the floor and the exhaust pipe, secured it with flex seal glue, and now the car is soooo much more comfortable, thanks for making a great product y'all.

Needed to shelter a turbo and exhaust downpipe. This fit the bill perfectly. Easy to work with and does what you would expect.Update. Downgrading to 3 stars on account of its lack of reusability. If the shield has to come off for any reason after a bunch of heat cycling it thoroughly falls apart. Not only does the fiberglass detatch from the aluminum backing but the glass seems to not want to stick together the same way it did when I applied it. If you have to make any sort of shape other than a simple U or if you have to wrap it around something I would advise you to find any other way.

Works like it should. I recommend that you use gloves when handling it. The fibers like to go into the creases of the wrist and fingers and itch.

I now prefer this to basically any other method of blocking heat from manifolds, but as a forewarning you will need metal shears/snips, stainless steel (high heat) cable ties, and to ensure you use the provided gloves (and a mask/respirator) as the packing is fiberglass. The packing will smoke/smell for approximately two hours or equivalent to about 100 miles or so. Afterwards, you may still get a little smoke/smell, but it will not be visible and prevent you from using outside HVAC intake like initially. It is excellent at blocking heat on turbo manifolds, and I recently applied it to an NA header I plan to use at some point in the future.
