The DE-STA-CO 227-U Horizontal Hold-Down Toggle Locking Clamp with U-shaped bar and flanged base is made of steel and has a horizontal hold-down handle for applications where there is little clearance above the clamp. It has a U-shaped clamping bar with a nonmarring neoprene-tipped holding screw that can be moved away from the base for a larger clearance angle. Positioning the holding screw closest to the base allows for maximum holding capacity. The maximum holding capacity is 500 lb. and the maximum clamp bar opening is 91 degrees. The clamp also has a toggle lock that maintains the clamp pressure and a flanged base for mounting to a work surface. The plastic-covered handle provides a secure grip.

Toggle clamps use pressure and a holding screw, also known as a spindle, to hold a component in place. Toggle clamps have either a fixed clamping point at the end of a solid clamping bar or an adjustable holding screw that can be moved down a U-shaped clamping bar and away from the base of the clamp for more clearance. The closer the holding screw is to the base of the clamp, more pressure is applied. The clamp handle is positioned either perpendicular to the bar (vertical) or parallel to the bar (horizontal) to suit different clearance angles around the component.

DE-STA-CO manufactures clamping, gripping, transferring, indexing, and robotic tools. The company was founded in 1915 and is headquartered in Auburn, MI.

Used this in a mortising jig for my woodworking shop. Couldn't work better.

Excellent clamps; the holding power is very good. Just keep in mind that you clamp thick items by elevating the clamp base. These clamps have limited ability to compensate for work piece thickness; the clamping force needs to be perpendicular to your work surface, not angled.Using these clamps has dramatically reduced the amount of time I was spending clamping and unclamping work.My order receives 4 stars because one clamp was shipped missing some hardware. And it was difficult to find the missing hardware locally.

These work as designed- but in my last order of 4 of these clamps, I received 3 227-U and 1 x 2013-UR. The 2013-UR is similar, but not the same as the 227-U.As others have observed, it would be great if the bolt for the hold down is longer. In the locked position, it is nearly impossible to get any pressure on the piece if the piece is lower than the base of the clamp. If you're using the clamp for a jig, it means the jig can't be any thicker than the piece you intend to hold down. Definitely not optimal.

Wish the bolt was longer. Even adjusted to the maximum length still does not feel like I get a good lock down.
