The DEVMO JF-0530B DC12V Solenoid started off well but, unfortunately, didn’t last. It worked as expected a few times, delivering decent pull-push action with a 5N force and 10mm stroke. However, it failed soon after, which was disappointing, especially since I expected a bit more durability for light use.The 300mA draw seemed manageable, and I didn’t notice any overheating, so it’s unclear why it gave out so quickly. It’s a compact and affordable option for basic projects, but I wouldn’t count on it for anything requiring long-term or frequent use. If you’re only testing or doing a one-off setup, it might be fine, but for anything more, a more durable solenoid might be worth considering.

I put this in series with a BJT, and 5V to ground on it runs... quite a bit of current through it. It gets pretty warm. I wouldn't leave it retracted for a very long amount of time personally. Good product regardless. It compares well with similar items I've used.

I’ve been using servo motors for most of the applications I needed to move stuff by a cm or two. I thought I’d try this solenoid actuator to see if a linear movement would be better in some systems. What I failed to note in the listing is that this solenoid actuator from DEVMO is only designed for momentary use – in other words, the power cannot be applied continually. This is a big limitation in my opinion. The dimensions are not given in the Amazon listing and on opening the product box, I was surprised to see how small this solenoid actuator was – the coil assembly is about 30mm x 20mm x 13mm with a 10-mm travel on the plunger. On applying 12V to the coil, a current of about 760mA was seen. The Amazon listing says it should be 300mA and the device itself is labeled as being rated for 1A. The pull force is rated at 5N with is about 1lb weight – I did a rough check with my kitchen scales and registered a pull weight of just 0.7lb (3N). With the power applied the coil got very hot, very quickly – alarmingly so! The return spring was fairly weak giving a force of about 0.2lb (less than 1N).This product is not cheap. It appears to be poorly designed - it’s weak and limited for momentarily operation before it gets dangerously hot. I don't know what I can use this for! There are much better options for the price.

I put a 12V source on the solenoid. It worked a few times with short pulses. I put a 5 second pulse on it and it failed. No over-heating. Its as if the winding circuit just fried and opened up. I guess you get what you pay for and will not depend on this product for a critical application.

Nice unit, works well...BUT draws over TWICE the advertised current. Take this into account as you design your project and choose a power supply. Coil gets hot if used continuously...so don't.

Very little force...will not work at all for my needs.
