The Firm (rigid) backing pad is ideal for demanding applications that require more pressure when grinding. These are suitable for high stock removal such as chamfering, beveling, and thick weld blending. The Medium (semi-rigid) backing pad is suitable for applications that need flexibility such as weld blending, burr and oxidation removal, and finishing.

Works great, don't overtighten the disc, or put a bunch of weight on it (although it does bend a little), good medium-duty backer, get something more substantial for large projects. Get some 40 or 60 grit. Not for lots of pressure.

It’s what I need and worked well for a bit then the metal flange that holds the pad on broke. Will try again and update review.
