2012 seems to be the year of the 29er. What started as a revolution has evolved into the norm. The 29er craze has spread east to west, north to south and everywhere in between. Why you might ask? Well, there are some real tangible benefits from the larger diameter wheel: ■Angle of Attack – Larger wheels decrease your angle of attack by allowing you to roll over obstacles easier and faster. Bigger wheel = smaller obstacle. ■Momentum – A larger wheel enables one to carry momentum easier though obstacles. ■Surface Contact – 29''wheels are less prone to sinking in soft material such as sand and mud due to the larger contact patch causing lower ground pressure. The longer contact patch increases cornering and straight line traction ■Stability – The relative position of the bottom bracket/cranks to the axles in the wheels also means that your relative center of gravity is lower. This results in a feeling of riding ''in'' the bike rather than on top of it. ■Tire Clearance – with more tire choices than any platform, the 29''wheel easily accommodates off road as well as commuting tires. ■Taller Riders – 29" bikes tend to offer taller riders a more ''natural'' frame geometry. The Sortie 29er was inspired by our bellowed Sortie 26'' platform. Our goal simple: retain ride characteristics of the Sortie trail platform while adding the benefits of a larger diameter wheel. Not a simple task by any means but what we've come up with is a bike that's being hailed as one of the best 29inch bikes on the market.

I had this frame for only 3 years and it broke just behind the top of the rear shock (just like the other reviewer) and on the top of the frame where the two pieces come together. Probably caused by the break in the rear shock area then simultaneously breaking the upper member of the frameTypically ride two times a week, on fairly smooth dirt trails some rocks but never large jumps or drops. I weigh 190.Diamondback was nice enough to replace the whole frame and rear shock with the newest model for no cost. so that's good

This is my third build, first full suspension build up. I love this bike. I rode it all last year, really beat it on the down hills and have taken some good jumps and drop offs. I weigh 225Lbs + backpack/waterpack and assorted mtn biking supplies and this thing has been holding up without any issues. Very stiff frame when matched up with a thru axle front fork. Amazing handling, great reliability, and just an overall awesome bike. I have the 21" X-large size so it's a beast, climbs very well though and the Fox rear shock absorbs the rough terrain very very well.

I bought a frame 17'' like this a year ago and it has been working very good. I assambled it with all xtr shimano stuff, easton ust rims and a fork talas 32 120 trail, as specs says, this is a very very good bicycle
