Our Holographic Diffraction Gratings are highly efficient embossed Holographic Optical Elements (H.O.E.). Diffraction Gratings are used for the direct viewing and analysis of spectra from different gas tubes and other light sources. The quality of the spectrum produced from our gratings is the brightest possible with a minimum of distracting visual noise. Our gratings are the principal component in a spectroscope and are used for experiments pertaining to the study of light and color. Project a spectrum using an overhead projector or 35mm slide projector for spectrum demonstration purposes. Use in conjunction with colored film gels for additive and subtractive color demonstrations. 2" X 2"

2" X 2" , I thought it meant 2 inches by 2 inches, in fact is very very tiny and can barely fit one eye in it :(

Simple but elegant. Ideal for benchtop diffraction demonstrations. Creates a clear spectrum for do-it-yourself elementary spectroscope. Good for quickly identifying significant spectral shifts in a lighting setup as well as crude identification of spectral lines from plasma light sources.

this company contacted me regarding a mediocre review that I submitted for this item - SEOH contacted me and asked why did I give this a 3 star rating - I replied that I only briefly looked at the grating to see if it was working , it was. Amazon then contacted me for a product review almost immediately - I had not had enough time to test it , so gave it an average rating. I have since tested it and it works just fine - creating a usable spectrum for an amateur spectroscope. Slow down , Amazon!

These work as expected for plastic diffraction gratings. They should have been packed a little better to avoid scratches but these are really meant for demonstration for education purposes not to build scientific instruments.

Mine arrived badly scratched. It is minimally useful.

Very Poor quality. Grating film is mounted with bulges and wrinkles. The grating has obvious scratches and smudges. As is, not useful as anything other than an amusement.

Very cheap price. Excellent results. I use this to check the pass frequencies of colored filters used for photography and my Telescope.I think the material is high quality, they may be selling this at a deep discount because of faint smudge or scratch that doesn't affect the results.

This item is basically marketed toward elementary through high school spectra education. It is certainly not a substitute for a spectroscope with wavelength scale ; but it allows a knowledgeable and skilled person to always have a crude spectroscope in ones possession that is suitable for making rough spectral analysis of light sources.

I had purchased the 500 L/mm version but wanted a little more resolution. This 1000 L/mm provides more detail in the spectrum and is made very nice. The slide is cardboard so it needs to be handles with care. You can use it without any other setup but to see a detailed spectrum you will need a way mount this in a spectroscope. Good spectroscopes are not cheap but this can replace the prism in older units to provide greater detail of the spectrum.
