How to Train Your Dog
Step 1:
Hang the dog door bell with the bell positioned about as high as the dog's nose.
Step 2:
Say a command (e.g. go out or go to the bathroom) and touch the bell with your dog's paw, then open the door and repeat several times.
Step 3:
Start the test. Say the command and if the dog touches the bell himself, open the door for him and praise or feed him.

I have the gold bells on the front door and the silver bells on the back door in the hopes that one of these days, puppy will let me know she has to go to the bathroom before she goes to the bathroom. We ring it every time we take her outside but she just looks at us like we're crazy, and then happily bounces outside to do her business. The bells themselves aren't annoyingly loud - just loud enough to get our attention. If the puppy chooses to use them. I am forever hopeful. They fit nicely on the door knobs and hang low enough that puppy can boop them with her nose or grab them with the teeth and give a good shake. They seem to be well made and should hold up to normal puppy ringing bell usage.

I have extremely small dogs. They each weigh 5 pounds. I was able to attach one of the bells to the other, so it was low enough for my pups. I love how adjustable having two makes it. The bells are loud and I also like it because I know if someone comes in the door. it’s made for pottying, but it’s also great for Security.
