having one of these sure beats living with the mystery of who's at the door. if you go slow and steady, install is straight forward.

I was upgrading from the original owner's peephole that was scuffed and blurry day or night. It has the same fisheye features as this one and looked identical, so I thought I'd just unscrew the old and screw in the new. Turns out this has a shaft that is about a millimeter wider so I had to do some drilling. The problem is that the shaft diameter is also bigger than any normal drill bit I own, and my door is metal, so the jagged teeth on the provided wood cutter bit would have ripped and tore up my metal walled door.I had to use my biggest bit to grind the door holes as evenly as I could while keeping the inner and outer holes aligned at the same time. I got it, but it took a while. Well, the front portion of the new unit slid in easily, but was tight when I began screwing the rear portion and it together. It got tighter with every turn and then too tight to fully thread the halves together, so I had to reverse course and drill grind some more. That's when they wouldn't unscrew as easy, and the fisheye lense bezel unscrewed instead, and fell to the cement. That's a ridiculous design choice, it shouldn't have the same thread directions as the install threads. Any of the peephole's lense disassembly threading should be reverse threaded so they don't separate unless purposely for cleaning and maintenance. The fall chipped the fisheye glass edge and somewhere on one of the small internal lenses ended up with a stractch. The fisheye lense edge chip isn't visible, and at the same time, the scratch is barley visible when I'm looking through the assembled unit. So, I did get it in there finally, but it wasn't easy as I expected, especially since it was an upgrade too. The internal lense threading being the same as the install thread is just bad though, plus it was a major chore cleaning the lenses that fell out before I could reassemble and finish with installation. I concluded that I'd only recommend this for those with wood doors for an upgrade or brand new install, but not for metal doors, at least not without a collection of big drill bits with a matching diameter. That said, my new view is a whole lot clearer and way crisper, at night too, which I like very much, even if I got pretty peeped off with installing. Thanks.

No complaints! Relatively easy to install (it was our first time)--like that it comes with the drill bit so there's no guessing. Good view, appreciate the sliding cover.

PROS:- Clear glass lenses- Easy to install- Included drill bit works with metal doorsCONS:- Drill bit did not reach through door from one sideInstallation was relatively easy, although the drill bit came up a bit too short to completely penetrate the door from one side. An extension would have resolved the issue, although I had none on hand that would fit the size of the hex shaft of the included drill bit. As the pilot bit had penetrated the door, however, I was able to drill again from the other side of the door to complete the required hole. After that, installation of the viewer was simply a matter of inserting one section and screwing the other onto it until tight. This device has glass lenses for clear viewing and the satin nickel finish gives a nice appearance. The rotating shutter preserves privacy if someone attempts to look into the peephole from the outside.

The door people is really well-made, and has great optics. Its wide angle view is fantastic, and it’s crystal clear. Installation couldn’t be easier, as it comes with its own specialized drill bit that made boring a perfect sized hole through the door nearly effortless. It’s a nice security add on for any door. And the sliding interior “lid” provides extra privacy. It’s precision made, so I feel confident it will last for a long time.
