Despite Dorman stating this part is for a 73 CJ-5, it is not identical to the original. Several fastener holes are the incorrect size and the timing marks are in a different location.

This part perfectly replaced the OEM timing cover on my 1987 Jeep YJ with an AMC 258 4.2L. I had no clearance issues and was able to install without removing the water pump. I did not use the included gasket but instead used the FEL-PRO TCS 45458.This paired well with the Cloyes C-3053 three piece timing set (chain, sprocket, and gear).

One of the two alternator holes will need to be cut shorter for a 1988 2.5L XJ. The top one ended up being too short. I used the cut off piece to use as a washer. Worked out perfect. But you will need a saw...

I purchased this timing cover while replacing the timing chain on my 97 TJ. I had discovered that the stock cover was all marred up from the old tensioner exploding and the various parts rattling around inside there (plus the old one was REALLY dirty and I didn't feel like cleaning). This cover fit perfectly and looks 1 thousand times better than the old crust timing cover it replaced. It included the gasket, but I had already purchased a fel-pro gasket kit and opted to use that (better?) gasket instead. I also got this as an Amazon Warehouse deal and got it ridiculously cheap... huge bonus there!

Used to replace timing cover on my 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0L. The extra boss had to be ground off or belt tension would not fit. Other than that, it fit perfectly.
