Use to fret when leaving the boat when stopping for dinner after fishing. Leaving it behind the establishment in the dark gave me concern. Not anymore, went on easily and protects it well. Highly recommend.

The cheap lock core is unacceptable on this product. A child could open this with a Bobby pin.The pictures show a round barrel lock that most people would not be able to pick. I was hoping that’s what I would get. They have cheaped out on the lock core and this is going straight back! It’s also clearly stamped “made in China”The description is totally wrong.

Overall the lock does appear to be of decent quality. Hence, the 3star rating. Better details and measurements, would have rated higher. I have the new 2020 Suzuki DF30 and this did not fit. My transom clamps were wider than the prefabbed design. In further investigation, I could not find any manufacturer with actual measurements of the gap clearance. So instead, luckily for me I have access to metal working tools, I made the gap wider to fit my needs. The measurement from outside of port (left) clamp to the outside of the starboard (right) is what will be needed to determine if it will fit. Be prepared to make modifications, regardless of manufacturer.

When I bought my Macgregor 26S it had one of these installed, but the seller had lost the key. I watched some youtube videos on how to get this off, and one idea was to pry from one end, jam a screwdriver in and just crank on it until the lock broke, but this is mounted upside down, and no way to get a screwdriver underneath to do this. I tried drilling a large hole in the back end and using a hammer with a long screwdriver to try and do the same thing, but his failed. The lock is also upside down, so calling a locksmith would have cost more than the lock is worth, so I covered the engine well with a wet towel, and got out my grinder, and after 20 minutes had it off in pieces. There is no way anyone could steal this motor quietly that I could see. After removal, I ordered the exact same one. It has me convinced it is solid and works very well. Install of the new one took 2 minutes.

The reason this item did not receive a 5-star rating is because the lock is not a barrel lock as advertised. It is a traditional key lock. The previous owner of my boat did not have the keys to the existing lock bar forcing me to have to cut it off with a 4.5" angle grinder. It took longer for me to stretch the cord out then it did to cut the bar off. I bought the Fulton to replace the original lock bar and found it to be a excellent design. The original had a single channel so if you cut the end off you could simply slide it off. That is impossible with the Fulton because there are two channels with a space in the middle. Short of defeating the lock it would be extremely difficult to get this bar off.
