Many years ago, I tried using upholstery tacks on a hardwood chair and just dived in with a hammer and a truckload of ignorance; was peeved when every single tack folded and failed. This time, I decided to try a little patience. First, I made a short pilot hole by pounding in a sturdy wire nail about a quarter or an eighth of an inch. (Didn't use a drill because I've tried that before on fabric-covered wood and the fabric wrapped around the spinning bit and went everywhere.) Removed it, pushed in one of these tacks as far as I could into the very hard wood, pushing straight down and using two thumbs on opposing sides of the tack head. It went in a bit and when it stopped, I took a small piece of corrugated cardboard and cushioned the tack head with it as I tapped with a small lightweight hammer. Worked great! I realize fancy people use rubber hammers to drive these things in but I can't find a good one I can afford so cardboard shield it will be. Finishing this project will take some serious time but hey - I'm not in a rush. If you're in a hurry, snap the heads off and glue the darned things on (just joking).

Purchased these to mount laser cut metal birds (black) on drywall. Pleasantly surprised. Very sturdy and able to push these into drywall with thumb. The decorative look far surpasses the simple black nails that were sent with birds and would require hammer to install. Highly Recommend!

I purchased these to create a scallop nail head trip on a very bland bench. I love the upgrade - and the cost to do it was perfect - just my time and these decorative nails! Made a huge difference. They nail in easily and they're very sturdy, the hammer didn't cause any damage to the heads (I used a ball peen hammer).

I got these to use as decoration on some home decor projects I make. I had never used anything like this before and wasn't sure what to expect......but ended up VERY PLEASED! I don't have very strong hands/fingers but had no problem pushing these into the wood and they look great! They really added some class to my projects. I bought 3 different styles and am very happy with them all.

I love these little nails. They have decorative tops and look great to spruce up furniture. I used them to finish a large ottoman that I recovered. Everyone that comes to my house compliments me on how cute the piece is. These nails are too thick to push in with just your hands, so you do need to use a hammer, or at least I did. It also helps to use a dot of glue to really seal them in place if you’re using them in something that gets moderate use or they may pop out.
