I assembled all the parts without any problem. I worked perfectly. There are many instructions and info came together.I am very happy with it.BUTYes there is a BUT unfortunately. It is the clear acrylic box kit I ordered later on.I received the clear box kit yesterday. As seen from the photo I attached it was seriously damaged during transport. Top, bottom and side parts are OK, but two parts which are indeed very fine and detailed but they are shattered. I struggled a bit (using super glue) but I gave up. Reason of the damage is the bubble envelope they used. If they used a cardboard box this wouldn't happen.

Was alot of fun to put together. And when you're done you have a very neat end result.

Challenging kit. Good soldering practice. I only have 3 stars because of the screen is broken. It showed something for a moment, then went blank. It has black blochy areas when on and even when off. I performed all the checks and everything is good, just a bad screen. I hope to hear back and hopefully change my rating.

This was a lot of fun to build, not too challenging for a relative soldering beginner, with excellent instructions and trouble shooting information via the Jyetech forums (I had one bad solder joint resulting in no trace when I first turned it on, which I was able to diagnose without too much grief thanks to their site). Playing around with a function generator iPad app and a spliced 3.5mm headphone cable has been lots of fun.The only reason I give it four stars is, there is apparently a DSO 138 "mini" version that I didn't know about before ordering. That one has more pre-soldered surface mount resistors, as well as USB power and apparently improved firmware. I don't really consider less soldering a drawback (it's a kit after all), but testing and/or reading the bands on all those tiny resistors is a bit of a pain, even using a component tester (also made from a kit). I can't speak to the firmware, but being able to power it from USB would have been a welcome feature for a casual tinkerer without an arsenal of DC power supplies and variously sized barrel plugs. Knowing what I know now, I may have gone for that version (or the DSO Shell kit with a case which looks to be a similar price).

I purchased this because I wanted a basic oscilliscope I could use to measure frequency and view waveforms used in circuits I make for hobby purposes. I also enjoy soldering and the satisfaction of assembling kits like these that I can actually use. From the research I did prior to purchase, it seems there are many companies that make or sell a nearly identical kit with varying degrees of quality. This kit offered here is the real deal! All of the surface mount components were presoldered leaving me with just the through hole components, but there are a lot of them to make over 200+. The instructions were correct, and all components worked. The instructions explain how to assemble the scope but provide no real theory of operation. The circuit board was clearly marked. It took me about 5 hours to carefully assemble.I was actually surprised that it turned on and worked on the first try! That being said, I wouldnt recommend this as a first soldering project. Even though it is all through-hole soldering, the pads are relatively small in places, and if you are not careful, you could easily damage the screen or accidentally desolder some of the surface mount components that are already on the board. The board is pretty tough though, I'm not great with a soldering Iron. There are also many youtube videos showing how to assemble this that I would recommend checking out before you start. As for operation, I was able to calibrate it per the instructions. I haven't done anything super in depth with it, but have used it to check frequencies at various points on a binary clock divide by 2 circuit, as well as examining some waveforms generated by 555 timers used in some simple audio circuits.A frequency measuring multimeter measured the same or very similar values so this is accurate enough for my purposes. All in all, I'm very pleased with this product. If you are an oscilliscope "afficionado or collector", I'm sure you could easily find fault with this scope but it works suprisingly well considering the price.
