Using erasers for highlights in a drawing is new to me. I learned how to do it in YouTube videos, yet wasn't getting the results I was aiming for. I watched one artist explain how she uses electric erasers and I scoffed at it. That made no sense to me.That video however has stayed in the back of my mind and kept nagging at me. I finally broke down and ordered this eraser.I got a couple batteries from my husband and got busy. The first thing I did before even thinking about a before picture was getting the highlight in the eye. This is something I have always struggled with. If I didn't draw in the highlights and stick to them I could never get them right. Well not anymore. Then I started playing with highlights in the mane and forelock. It took some trial and error before I felt I got it right. There are two different size of erasers to use and it was a learning curve for me.In the end, I was very happy with the drawing and the added use of an electric eraser for highlights. When it came time to clean up the smudges around the drawing after I was satisfied I did finally find where a traditional erasers still held an advantage. While the electric eraser allows for more targeted erasing, when it came to the big areas I found it not as effective as a traditional eraser and it was much harder on the paper. It also took more work than my traditional eraser. So, I learned a lot in one drawing. How to best affect texture in the drawing with an eraser and how to get killer highlights. I also learned what limitations electric erasers have.I'm very pleased with my new eraser and I look forward to what it will do for me when I sit down and put the time in to do a more detailed and complete drawing. This electric eraser is now an important component in my art supplies.
