The router bit and motor unit will move lower by itself when operating。 The motor unit is secured to the base by using a clamp which cannot hold it tight to the base. I tried to tighten it several times and it just could not hold the motor unit to the base.

Made in china. can't give 5 stars due to that fact. However, runs well. I have a Makita at my work, (this one is for home use), and it compares very well. I'm sure the bits that were included won't last long, but I bought it for the router not the bits, so that is not a concern. All in all, pretty good for the cost.

This plunge base is basically identical to the Makita plunge base model 196094-2 minus the Makita logo and a black indicator rather than a red one. Another reviewer mention the lack of documentation and that's true but Makita doesn't provide any either. The same reviewer mentioned the two screws on the bottom. Their purpose is to secure a template guide adaptor such as Makita model 321492-3 90A which fits the base very nicely and uses standard universal 2-piece template guides. My Metabo 18v trim router fits in the base very well and snugs up nicely.
