I also own a Neumann U87 and about 20 other studio microphones, but this Electro-Voice RE-50 is the microphone that actually gets used the most (15+ years of professional experience). Put this microphone reasonably close to a sound source (voice, amp speaker, instrument) and record. Done. If you can't do it with this microphone, and it's not client-paid commercial voice over, the problem is most likely not the microphone. This mic works great, you'll be in excellent hands with it.

We still use its predecessor, EV RE50, without the upgrade high-output neodymium capsule magnet. Replaced the internal wind screen for $7.50 plus S/H after 30+ years. Effective as new! Always dependable; rugged, effective construction for absorbing shock; handling noise not an issue; decent field frequency response. We use it for interviews directly to recorders. Nice for presentations, too. This is an industry standard. Will buy again to expand. Should not need to replace!
