I'm on my second NC State (my alma mater) hitch cover. The first one lasted about 3 years with absolutely no signs of age or rust. I'd still have it if a young lady who thought texting was more important than driving hadn't hit me from behind at a traffic light! Wasn't a high speed collision, maybe 10 - 15 mph, but it punched a nice square NC State sized hole right through the plastic front bumper of her Mom's new car. Folded the steel edges of my hitch cover back and badly scuffed the logo, but it remained structurally intact. Was happy that it took the brunt of the collision, and happy to buy a brand new NCS hitch cover!
