Buckle comes off. It's not sewn on ,or used for the purpose of what the buckle intended to be used for.other than that the shape and soles are good.

I had bought these before, they didn't last long but I wanted the buckle style shoe for certain outfits. But this last time the shoe was not properly assembled, the buckle was not attached to the underlying strap and just flopped around. Also, the shoe was smaller than the past one despite being rated the same size. Between these problems and the short time the other one lasted I recommend avoiding this product.

True to size, make sure to read size chart. Fit comfortably over thin stockings with no other layer. Good quality.

Bought these for my husband to wear as part of a costume for a Dickens themed Xmas party. He wears a size 10 and these fit perfectly and were comfortable. Recommend if you need a colonial era costume shoe

These are great costume shoes.First I will list the good:They are made of real leather.The buckle is metal.They look great.Now the downside:Yes they are made of real leather but it is very thin and prone to scraping away easily.You will definitely need insoles in these shoes for there in nothing to them inside.They are very loud shoes. The leather is squeeky and the heels are hollow and clack loudly when walking.I wear a size 10.5 shoe and have narrow feet. I got the Medium as they should fit 10-11. These were huge on me and would not stay on my feet. It took insoles, two pairs of socks, and I had to sew the elastic band under the buckle and tongue almost closed to get them secure on my feet. I wonder how a small would have fit.My personal experience:I bought these in a pinch for a quick cheap pair of re-enactment shoes. I think that for those purposes they did their job. However, there were hidden costs. I had to purchase insoles and some nonslip adhesive soles for them costing me about as much as the shoe themselves. Not to mention the time it took to get them to fit correctly. when it was all said and done, they were still way cheaper then getting actual historic reenactment shoes. So they worked. But after 3 days of sailing a 17th century ship, they look about 15 years old and not loved or cared for. I would not buy these for anything more then a costume shoe.In closing I believe these to be a good costume shoe but not great. If they spent a bit more money making them so I didn't need insoles and had a quiet nonslip rubber sole already built into them I would gladly pay $50-$60 for them.
