About this item

  • A great choice for pro players who require an authentic recreation of the instrument's natural tone and low noise
  • Allows players the ability to hear the banjo amplified without giving up any of the tone they love
  • Uses a dual-coil Alnico magnet design
  • The pole pieces compensate for an even string balance for a variety of string gauges
  • The coils are spaced apart from one another creating acoustic “chambers” for a quality uncommon in magnetic pickups
  • Whether recording or performing live, the ACB produces a true banjo tone that is noise free

The ACB-5 banjo pickup is the the choice of pro players due to its authentic recreation of the instrument's natural tone and low noise. This pickup allows players the ability to hear the banjo amplified without giving up any of the tone they love. The EMG ACB uses a dual-coil Alnico magnet design. The pole pieces compensate for an even string balance for a variety of string gauges. This innovative design has the coils spaced apart from one another creating acoustic “chambers”. These gaps allow sound waves inside the banjo to resonate around the coil walls adding an acoustic quality that has not been achieved in a magnetic pickup until now. Whether recording or performing live, the ACB produces a true banjo tone that is noise free.

I love the sound of my jens Kruger banjo. And, i hate gigging and having to stand in a mics sweet spot on stage.I was strongly considering a dedicated stage banjo with kavanjo, but reconsidered when my friend put a kavanjo on her banjo. Her acoustic tone changed a lot. After watching a couple of promo videos i bought this pick upbecause it promised open natural sound and im delighted. As importantly, my banjos unplugged sound is entirely unaffected. And, installation does not mar or alter the banjo in any way.Installing it takes about 15 minutes, tops. Follow the instructions as the pick up must be extremely close to, but not touching , the head.Acoustic sound is unaltered. Plugged in, its a natural, transparent balanced banjo sound. Its also great to have a volume control.Jack is out of the way when playing unplugged.Signal strength is fine but can be boosted by using and attaching the supplied tiny metal strips to the underside of the head. Feedback can be suppressed by inserting the pick up dampener. I have not found the need for either in my americana bluegrass bands, but might in a rock/ drummer situation.Love the freedom of not being chained to a stage mics sweet spot.Great product. Great sound.

Didn’t get a chance to install this immediately. Now I’ve missed the return window. It came to me new in the box, shrink wrapped, and broken. No signal. Spent 2 hours installing it to have to pull it out and put my old pickup back in. Super disappointed. Going to contact manufacturer. If they make good I will try again and give a new rating.

I didn't get much use out of this pickup before it broke. I maybe used it 5 times. After about three times it started buzzing and crackling when the cable moved in it. I went to tighten up the connection to fix the noise, got that done, then went to push the connection in and the pins to the connection just broke off. They didn't break off at a solderable place, they broke off at their transistor connection which means that now I have to spend money to fix it because that is above my electrical head. This thing has really stunk since I got it and I'll be buying a Fishman or a Kavanjo.

This is the second EMG pickup that I have purchased.. I have fitted one to a Stelling Bellflower and the other to a Gibson Mastertone. Very easily fitted, all bolt on, leaving absolutely unmarked instruments. I use a Line 6 wireless system to a Peavey Classic 30 valve amp on both instruments. Sound is clear and natural and I am extremely happy with the EMG pickups. Have used the Stelling in a band situation for two years. have replaced the two button batteries on the pickup only once. Great product.

This pickup system is by far the most natural sounding non-mic solution I have heard for amplifying banjo. Even plugged directly for recording purposes it still has a very clear, natural sound. The batteries last a long time as long as you don't leave a patch cable plugged into the banjo for extended periods of time (like a couple days). My only complaint is that for open back players like myself whose banjos have dowel sticks, the mounting hardware is pretty much useless unless you fabricate another solution (which is what I did). When I called the company they said to screw the pickup directly into the dowel stick. No thanks, I'll figure out some other way.So this pickup gets four out of five stars for its shortsighted design, but I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking for extra volume in live situations.

I'm so glad I bought this pickup. Very easy to install and adjust. I play in a very loud band and always had feedback issues with with other pickups, that is not an issue with the ACB. It has no effect on the acoustic sound of my banjo either. I was using a K&K before which had two contact points on the banjo head. I found that it muted the tone a bit. The ACB is great all around. Very balanced sound. Highly recommended. It's a little more than some other pickups but well worth the money.
