Cheap quality, but adequate for the price. Flimsy covers make these pads useless for notetaking on the go. You will definitely need a hard, flat surface to support them when you are writing. These pads will work fine for making lists, general notetaking, but not for actual shorthand or notehand purposes. In no way do these pads qualify as actual Gregg ruled steno pads. They may be similar in appearance to steno pads, but not in functionality. Will not buy again.

There is no glory in taking notes in steno pads. It's work, no matter what it is. But the charming colors -- so different from the yuck cardboard with greenish or buff-colored pages -- that even the dreariest task takes on intrigue and importance. It just feels good to have sophisticated and subtle color sneaking into my task and it makes me feel like I'm doing something worthy of my time even if I'm still just scribbling notes and writing down details that other people may or may not care about. It's important to me. So is my time and my energy. These are professional and a joy to jot notes in.I have one for trips to each person's trip to the doctor. Even the veterinarian. I have one for the groups where we have meetings. Too many meetings. I have one for things that need to be done inside the house -- all the handyman tasks. I have another for what needs to be done outside in the yard, all the landscaping, planting, and gardening needs and ideas.But they are nice and good quality and attractive. I feel like my mundane life has a bit more importance than it does. It's like having a new pair of nice high heels that make me feel like I should be taken seriously. These notepads have given me back the self-respect I once had when I had a job which was not organized house, yard, people, etc.

Paper is pretty cheap and thin, and the ruling is very dark - almost as dark as the pen or pencil you're using to write with. The covers are also pretty limp and thin as well and often bend as much as the paper does when you're trying to write on anything other than a flat surface.That being said for the price of around 10 dollars for a pack of 5, they do make good scratch paper. The colors leave a little to be desired though, brown and dark maroon (aka slightly redder brown) and beige...woo

I like stenographer’s notebooks for many of my household uses. They are compact and lightweight and I don’t care if they get a little scuffed up. The paper in these notebooks is about what I expected. However, I’m very disappointed in the covers. These are not sturdy enough to write on without a table or clipboard under them. Since I often use these on the go that is incredibly disappointing. I will use these, but I will not be re-ordering.I will add that they are pretty colors, but I simply need these to be functional so the appearance is of no consequence.

These note books do not have a hard cardboard backing but thin cardboard backing. But I don't write on my lap. The paper is great and I like the light weight feel. I love this product and would recommend if you are not writing on your lap.

We have purchased steno pads from various brands over time, and ran across these during a recent research to replenish our supply. They are attractive, but most importantly they are one of the first ones that actually lie flat when you open them, and don't tear the pages when you open and close them. The binding is not spiral like the other brands; I don't know how to describe it but the binding that passes through the pages are parallel to each other, not diagonal like a spiral binding; hence the pages follow the binding and don't get shifted left or right tearing them at the point where they are bound. Very nice quality product in addition to being very attractive.
