Great all around soldering block. Will get pitted and uneven. When all pitted I even it out by putting a sheet of 80 grit sandpaper on a cookie sheet and rubbing the block smooth. Wear a mask and gloves.

Admittedly I do not know if this is "normal" because it is my first one but I don't like how brittle this block is.It does work, however, it also seems to "melt" a bit.

Para joyería NO funciona. En cuanto se le pone fuego directo, se empieza a derretir.

Very light as described. Got this at a great value and very handy in crafting my jewelry that requires soldering. Thanks seller for a great product at a great price.

I originally bought this block to solder stainless steel with a 100W soldering iron. Worked great for that. I recently needed to solder some 1/2" copper water line and fittings. This block was handy so I torch soldered the fittings on top of this block. Not sure if torch use was intended but it survived. There was a little smoke and part of it got red hot but it held up. Beats the heck out of burning your bench or burning the paint off your vise.

Did as expected. Didn’t perform the greatest as it was light weight as expected but dry and flakey and sometimes the powder caught or wound up coating my project

It's a block of magnesium. I didn't do chemical analysis on it, as I have no super computer on hand in my studio, but I trust that the product is as advertised...I've done many annealing heats and solders on it and other than turning brown as one would expect, have encountered no issues.edit - Still using the same block today. In fact, I just finished some earrings on it just over an hour ago. It's got holes in it where I've held my pieces with pins and carve outs where I've put irregularly-shaped pieces, but other than that, it's intact and sound, unlike my charcoal blocks which I usually burn through in about a month.Great product!

This soldering block works great as a refractory material to heat up both sides of a piece of metal with torch. It also works great as a resting place for hot materials, like a freshly burned out casting flask or for resting a crucible while melting silver and gold. I've had it for over 6 months and haven't noticed very much wear and tear. It's likely to last me a long time. If you are one that likes to push into your bricks to create a divot where you can stand up a ring or a piece of metal, this works great. It is a soft brick material and isn't made of silica, so you won't be dying from inhaling silica dust!

Very useful block for soldering, best thing is that items can be pushed or pinned into it to hold securely whilst soldering. Worst thing was the fact that it took a long time to arrive, but would order again. ( Just not if I needed one in a hurry!)

I'm doing soldering and using it with a butane mini-torch. It works well, and keeps the heat focused on the metal. It does get pitted and a burnt with fairly quickly with the mini-torch. It also crumbles a bit, leaving white powder around your work area. I store it in a ziploc to keep things clean.

I use this block for all soldering. It is soft, easy to carve, and just works great for just about any torch task. I put it on a fireproof 6x6 pad, and attach the pad to the round turntable (check my reviews -- bought the round turntable on Amazon too). Makes rotating it super easy.
