Whether you play rock, blues, country or metal, the Evans EMAD2 Clear Bass Drum Head is a true working drummer’s choice. Named for the externally mounted adjustable damping, the versatile system caters to all bass drum tones by allowing each player to control the attack and focus of the drum head by choosing one of two removable foam damping rings. Choosing the thinner foam ring allows for punch and focus without sacrificing resonance, while choosing the wider foam ring maximizes the low end and attack of any bass drum. The 22” drum head has an outer ply of 7mil and an inner ply of 10mil film for added durability. Enhanced with revolutionary Level 360 technology, the clear bass drum head is easier to tune, with a wider tonal range than ever before. Applying the new Level 360 collar shape to the EMAD2 bass drum head allows it to seat itself properly and in turn provides a head that is easy to tune and a sound that is studio ready. Evans EMAD2 clear bass drum heads are available in sizes 18” to 26” with multiple thickness and coating options. Really nice sound, I haven’t tried the wider muffling ring yet left the thinner one on. I find these pretty easy to tune. Has a good punch with controlled boomy sound. I think I’ll try taking the muffling rind out tomorrow, see how much fatter it sounds. I used the double kick Evan’s EQ patch to prevent wear and tear. Always use those if you want your kick head to last longer.

The Evans EMAD 2 Bass Drum Head is superb. It's easy to tune, highly durable, and versatile, especially for Spanish Christian music. It delivers a very good punchy sound with excellent tone and feel. Additionally, it offers great value for money, making it a smart investment for any drummer.

I have been buying this bass drum head continuously for the last 10 or 15 years. It is the best one with the best tone at the best price. Evans emad2 is fantastic. Super deep bass tones and the phone ring insert around it just gives it the perfect amount of dull boom that I love.

I am a Remo guy for sure but I find myself coming back to this head a lot recently. I use a variety of kick drums, mainly Gretsch & Ayotte. I had been using Power Stroke 3's because of their attack. What I want more than that is a warm, huge funky tone with good feel. The EMAD keeps doing that. I like them so much I have switched over all my kicks to them. On a 20" X 16" or 18" the drum sounds much bigger than it is. On stage it is wonderful. At home practicing it gives me back the sound I want which is rounder and deeper than the PS 3. These heads are durable as well so you won't be compromising durability. Hope this helps you guys & gals...

I've been a huge fan of Aquarian's SuperKick II for around 10 years, but when I saw how acclaimed the EMAD2 is on Amazon, I figured I'd try one myself. I love it on my Tama Superstar Classic, paired with the Evans EQ patch and a drum dot. I love the thud and kickback I get from it, although I couldn't tell you if it's better than the SuperKick in any particular way. I think the main difference between the two is that the SuperKick has a different kickback than the EMAD2, so it really depends on what you prefer. Remo makes some great kick heads too. What I'm getting at here is that there's a wealth of great kick heads out there, so experiment with different models to find your companion. The EMAD2 is a great choice, whether it's your 1st or 69th kick head!

Profile: Very experienced player, now a very old man...sorta. Been doing this a while.Used on: DW Performance Series (cause I liked it), HVX Maple, Oil Stain. 16x20 Bass Drum. Rogers new generation Swiv-O-Matic pedal, combo Felt/Acrylic beater.OK, Swapped out the stock DW by Remo head as...well..it just wasn't cutting it; such a let down. Had used EMAD2 on the Yamahas I sold and the difference was sooo...WHOA!!! So...Stupid incredible AWESOME GREATNESS!!!Went from "thud" to a couple of octives lower KABOOM. This is without a doubt the best STRIKE SIDE bass drum (kick) head out there, and that was without messing with the heavier dampening ring, even took the impact side DW pillow out. I was tempted to try the GMAD but went with a tried and true. So glad I did and you can CHOOSE your POW!The other payback I didn't see in the reviews I read was the FEEL. Yes, it tunes right up, but, BUT that, THAT...FEEL!!!Using the new--returned to production--Rogers Swiv-O-Matic pedal and I can get wappity-wappity triplets noooo problem. What a great piece of work! I Wish all drum products made such a stand out difference.**Stop shopping and just buy it! **UPDATE06/2022. The EMAD2 is my go to bass drum head. The swap-able foam inserts are a game changer. Recently bought the NEW EMAD2 HEAVYWEIGHT to use for a 24” Gong drum (14”/24” bass drum) and it’s a jaw dropper. This is most likely THE best drum head for it’s category of a good solid thud.

I like this head a lot. I completely agree with the previous reviews that say that it doesn't necessarily give the chest-resounding whump that you get from a down-filled pillow in the drum cavity, but I love that the rings allow for options in terms of the degree of muffling. I had a down sleeping bag liner stuffed in my bass drum before, and I ended up keeping it in there after I put this head on. The difference is now it's much less important where the blanket/liner comes in contact with the beater head. In other words, before, the liner served two functions: to muffle the resonance of the beater head; and to add depth to the sound (the deep thump). Now this head serves the former function of muffling, and the liner still delivers the deep thump. Also, just to clarify, since the pictures don't show this detail, there is a physical ring affixed to the surface of the head. This ring has a lip that comes out from the head about 1/4", which is the space that the foam rings slide into. It's a very easy and quick thing to switch out, and can easily be done between songs if you want different sounds for different songs.I definitely recommend this head. My band mates could notice the difference when I put it on, and so could I.
