Dimensional Stone Quarrying, Avoid waste of valuable stone! Increases Stone Production!

In Mining and Stone Quarrying industry, Dexpan helps to acquire perfect slabs and blocks from limestone, onyx, marble, granite, sandstone, flagstone or many other types of natural stones.

Compared to explosives blasting and detonating cord, Dexpan non-explosive demolition agent avoids waste of valuable stone, high cost of blasting insurance, storage and labor. Not to mention increased safety and stone production.

Compared to diamond wire sawing machines, Dexpan avoids high cost of equipment, replacing diamond wire, complicated setup, relocation and maintenance, there is no limited cutting distance due to length of diamond wire, no cooling water and high voltage power supplies required.

Standard Drilling Pattern

This Drilling Pattern uses Dexpan to its fullest to crack your concrete or rocks into easily removed sections. Space each hole 1-Foot apart from the others, measuring from the center of each hole. Make sure at least one side of the project has free space to expand to equal to the depth of the holes.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much concrete can I demolish with a box of Dexpan?

A standard 44lb. box will cover approximately 35 lineal feet of drilled holes, which can be used in a standard pattern to remove 60 cubic feet, or 1.7 cubic meters, of concrete. A 11lb. bucket will cover approximately 9 lineal feet, or ~16 cubic feet (.45 cubic meters). Dexpan is recommended for projects with a depth of at least 8 inches.

Which Dexpan should I use?

Use the ambient temperature of the area surrounding the rock and compare it to the temperatures listed on each type of Dexpan. A local weather forecast should be enough to determine the appropriate type of Dexpan. For Temperatures between 77-104° F (25-40° C), use Dexpan #1. From 50-77° F (10-25° C), use #2. And for 23-50° F (5-10° C), use #3.

When should I pour Dexpan?

The best time to pour Dexpan is the morning after you drill the holes, immediately after combining the product with water. Doing this as early as possible will allow Dexpan to work throughout the day.

Dexpan pushed itself out of its hole! What went wrong?

We refer to Dexpan pushing itself out of the drilled hole as a 'blowout', and it can occur for a few reasons. The most common is when the project does not have adequate expansion space. Be sure that there is an empty area next to the rock at least as long as the depth of the drilled holes so that Dexpan has somewhere to push the rock. Blowouts may also occur due to high temperatures (especially when using the wrong Type of Dexpan), large hole diameters, and using Core Bits to drill holes.

We were having trouble getting our garages 3 foot deep foundation broke up. We drilled holes and poured this stuff in and let it do it's magic. This is a great product if you need to break up deep large pieces of concrete. Would definitely purchase again.

I wanted to crack this large rock to make a bench. Drilled 12 holes, 2 feet deep, with a 3/4 bit. Very horizontal. I can normally fill 20 or so holes with one bag. I wanted to be there when it cracked so I drilled 10 more holes in between the holes and put in 10 wedges. And after less than 12 hours got a nice beautiful flat crack. Since then, it's continued to lift the rock.

Dexpan used in natural solid Granite Slab to make a ramp ( 10' wide x 6' long and about 45 degree slope). Drilled holes from 24"-32" deep in multiple stages. Spacing of holes were 12"-16" apart. Some of the holes were drilled the recommended 1.5" diameter. Works great. Also tried drilling 1.25" diameter holes. Worked very good for me and sped up the project! I did fill one group of holes with Dexpan while it was raining. Bad idea. Water got into the filled holes and the Dexpan would not expand as designed! Keep area dry if you can and the more time you let the Dexpan " work" the better. Even after 24 hours it was still expanding a little.

Product performs as advertised provided you follow the instructions. Drilling 1 1/2” holes in ledgerock is not quick work even with expensive tools designed for the task. It took several days for rock to crack up enough to remove after applying Dexpan to holes. If time is not an issue, it is a cost effective solution.

This product worked great for breaking apart a huge Canadian shield rock (a combination of granite and other rock materials) in our basement sized about 4 ft x 24 ft. We initially followed the instructions on the USA website, but it didn't work as fast/well as we'd hoped, so we checked out the CDN site and found out we were mixing it incorrectly. As soon as we started mixing it correctly, before pouring it into the drilled holes, we were seeing initial results before 24 hrs and after 48 hours, the rock was cracked & breaking apart easily. It took my husband a full month & a half after work & weekends to break it almost completely apart. Last pic was from 2 weeks ago, we are farther now. We have just a bit left at the narrow 2 ft part & a bit around the edges. We are happy to almost reclaim a huge amount of square footage in our basement that we will use as a rec room in the near future. Great product, highly recommend.

I had some giant rocks sticking out of my road and driveway. They were to large to excavate. Following the directions on this product l drilled holes 8 to 12 inches apart approximately 12 inches deep. Once l had approximately 9ft of holes to fill l mixed the Dexpan and poured it into the cleaned out holes. Cracks started to appear within just a few hours. After two days cracks were so large I could easily stick prybar into crack and remove rock as deep as holes that were drilled. Wish l had bought this year's ago. So quick and easy to use and worked better than l could have imagined. Thanks Dexpan! I will be buying more.

I had a concrete pad that was 22” thick on the sides with stones throughout the pad. A jack hammer and a skid steer hammer attachment barely made a dent. Used a hammer drill with 1 1/2” bit like the directions tell you. With how many rocks were under the pad, a lot of my holes didn’t fill up. But the ones that did, broke the concrete and rocks right up. Would use again, highly recommend on thick pads. Less noise then a jack hammer also. 100% worth the buy.

Works really good. Got a bit aggressive with the hole spacing but still cracked the rock all to pieces. Using it on hard granite bedrock in Nova Scotia. It takes time to work properly. Drilled and filled the holes on Thursday and checked Monday, some cracking but not a lot went back the next Sunday, 10 days later and a lot of cracking with many large pieces separated from the main rock.

Worked extremely well!! I had a hard time finding reviews with only partially exposed rock. My rock doesn’t seem to have a bottom to it but I only needed to remove the top 12” at the rocks highest elevation. I used 1 1/4” bit and also a 1” bit. The larger holes produced larger cracks. The larger bit does take longer to drill. I would if I used a 3/4” bit first then the 1 1/4” after that seems to make the process go faster. Tried enlarging the 1” holes with the 1 1/4” bit and the larger bit kept getting stuck. There is a learning curve with drilling, you will need a pipe wrench to unstick your bits. Bought a roto hammer drill at HF for $125; that would have been a 2 day rental at HD.

Had a big granite boulder to break in the basement. Dynamite was not an option indoors. After some research, found out about Dexpan. I was a bit skeptical at first but decided to give it a try. Did not had the needed equipment to drill 1 1/2 inch holes as recommended. Made 7/8 holes instead but made them closer (about 8 inch). Took about 2 days to have the first crack. After 4-5 days, the boulder was cracked all over. Dexpan made a very complicated and expensive job much easier and, most of all, much cheaper to accomplish compared to breaking the thing with rental jackhammers and such. Recommended!
