My son is in his second year of medical school and I wanted to get him a fun gift for Christmas this year. These bookends are exactly what I was looking for. He's got a lot of medical books and they will look really great in his office. They are very attractive and the general chemical theme is awesome. The fact that they show serotonin molecules makes them even better. The book ends themselves are solid and sturdy but the molecule details can bend easily and need to be treated with a little extra care.

I am not even remotely a chemist, nor do I have a career that has anything to do with chemistry, but I was a chemistry nerd in school, and it was one of my all-time favorite subjects. So when I saw these, and the fact that they were bookends, I had to have them.From the pictures online, I was honestly worried they'd be a little flimsy and cheap looking. However, I'm happy to say that they are actually nicer than what I expecting. They are well made, and the metal is strong and sturdy. They are not thin or flimsy, though obviously you still want to be careful with them. They have little rubber feet on the bottom to prevent them from sliding around on your shelves.I know that bookends often have the flat part that slides beneath your books, but on these, I think they turned that flat part the opposite direction to help protect the molecule structure sticking out above the flat base. I don't love the look of the base sticking out on both ends of the books, but it's not a huge deal.I especially love that they used the serotonin molecule structure for these bookends, because serotonin is the "feel-good" hormone, and as someone that is a total book-nerd, reading is a feel-good activity for me. It's my form of self-care, so these bookends were beyond perfect.I also think they'd make a great gift for any chemist or science nerd in your life. It's a fun and unique design and they make for an eyecatching display on any bookshelf!
