This thing is an absolute POS. I have worked in multiple office environments in my time. Suffice it to say, I've worked on dozens of comb binders by as many companies. This thing should NEVER be purchased by anybody for any reason. I cannot believe anybody is actually having a good time of this.First, the damn thing cannot punch straight for anything. I've tried to punch one sheet at a time, 3 at a time, and 5 at a time (well below the "recommended number of pages") and half of them cut off the side of the page. Forcing me to reprint pages over and over does not make me want to use this any more than I have to. I can't figure how a company that makes its money in comb binding can produce a machine that, you know, can't punch anything straight.Secondly, you can't punch paper without doing this awkward balancing act between lifting the punch lever, putting the papers behind it but in front of the completely unnecessary cover, and trying to hold them in place while moving the punch handle. WHO DESIGNED THIS THING?My advice? Save your money for a few more weeks and buy a REAL comb binder. Something that actually works and doesn't just waste your paper and time.Honestly? It's worth the price to me to just have a copy shop print and bind my documents for me.

I bought this one because it was the only one available within my price range. i am satisfied with it for personal use, however I don't think I will use it at work as i had planned. I think I just have to be a bit careful with it if i allow multiple people to use it.

This is a nice machine that works well. It's biggest limitation I would say is the ability to only hole punch about 10 sheets at a time. That isn't really an issue for me as I'm not doing a large volume of documents. So basically, the way this thing works is you use the large handle to hole punch your document 10 sheets at a time. Then, if you are going to do, say a PVC cover, you can punch those heavier sheets 2 at a time. Once all the sheets are punched you use the smaller lever to open whatever size comb you need to hold the sheets together. Then you put say 30-40 sheets at a time on the opened comb, remembering to do your cover sheets (if any) first and last. Then you use the small handle to close the comb, at which point the sheets are firmly attached. So it pretty much handles the process from beginning to end.The big handle has a lot of leverage so it is easy to punch 10 sheets at a time. I would say this is a really good choice for light or medium use. Also there are about 5 or 6 comb sizes available to handle documents from small to large.

I am a teacher and a homeschooling mom to a 16 year old and I couldn't wait to get this Fellowes Star Comb Binding Machine. I have used it many times since I received it and have been extremely happy with it. The instructions that come with the machine are very vague, but that is not an issue at all because it's very easy to use. I took it out of the box, placed it on my desk and looked at it for all of 60 seconds and that was that. I have been binding books for my daughter since the moment I opened it and haven't had any problems at all. I use a 24 lb paper and I can easily punch through 8 pages or more at a time. I have to also say that I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and it's not easy for me to manipulate things with my hands, so if I can use it, anyone can! The one thing I do which might be helpful to you, I put my heavy stapler on top of the papers as I load them onto the plastic binder. It's not really necessary to do this, but it holds the papers down while I load the next stack on the binder. So simple! Also, this is not a huge machine. I can actually pick this up and move it around without any difficulty. It is compact enough to fit in my big desk drawer. This is such a great tool for homeschoolers, teachers, and small offices. If you are thinking of purchasing one, don't wait. This will make your life so much easier and comb bound books take up a lot less space than three ring binders! I hope my review is helpful.

I had previously purchased a personal comb-binding machine made by GBC, which was complete garbage, so I was a little less than keen on forking out $70-some for another binder, but this one was worth every penny. The vertical load makes it very difficult to screw up the punch alignment, and I have yet to punch papers that it won't take. I have loaded to its 'max' of 10 standard weight sheets and not had any trouble at all. The lever that opens the plastic combs is a snap to work, and the whole thing closes nicely for storage when not in use. If you're hesitating on buying this because of the price- don't- it's NOT worth it to buy a GBC one for less that doesn't do what its says it will! This binder makes the binding process enjoyable- after wrangling with that stupid GBC machine, I almost feel victorious every time I make a book with my new Fellowes binder! I've been able to bind all of my students' loose music, my own loose music scores from college and all the loose choir pamphlets that are always such a big mess on my music shelf. No more messes and the books stay open while we play, too. What a life saver!

Purchased the item through Amazon, this product meets all my expectations. The binding machine was ordered and shipped and at my door the next day. I have used it multiple times and with out a hitch. The machine can handle up to about 6 or 7 sheets of 20lb paper comfortably. It was so simple to set up and use,in fact I watched a 3 minute video on-line and was able to operate it with no problems. For anyone who has a small office or home office or a student this machine can make report booklets in a snap. I have used it on heavier pieces of card stock, plastic report covers, plastic report backs, but recommend one sheet at a time for heavier weighted papers. What I like the best is I don't have to run to the store every time I need a report booklet made, it saves time and gas money, as well as the ability to take the produced reports appart and insert more material. I would not hesitate to purchase this product if your uncertain in making a choice between others.
