I bought this to replace a hydrometer I've been using for 20+ years that I made the mistake of loaning out and was destroyed by the borrower. The hydrometer itself seems very well made, glass with weights at the bottom, has multiple scales, and is easy enough to read. The beaker on the other hand is pretty much useless. It's made of an opaque plastic and you can't read the hydrometer through it. Plus in order to float the hydrometer enough for a 1.000 reading takes a little over 9 ounces of liquid which seems like a lot to me. If I had something clear with a smaller diameter, I'd keep this hydrometer but I don't so I'm going to look for something else.

I got this for a friend who is into home brewing and per them, this is a really good quality stuff. The glass is shatter resistant and has a nice weight, and this includes just about everything you need for home brewing. Overall, nice set.
