Instead of buying dirt and filling small cups to start seeds in this helps a lot better to start seeds the pellets expand and grow bigger when you add water and you place your seeds into them, humidity dome doesn't lock completely it doesn't give a air tight seal it leaves gaps but I think that was by design and I just put a grow light over the dome and my seeds sprouted, good value for the money

These seed starting trays work great and are very convenient. The purpose of this review is mainly for Ferry Morse, the company that shipped this product to me. One of the plastic trays was damaged during shipping, so I contacted Ferry Morse, and they more than made up for it. Really terrific customer service!

I have used these on and off for gardening for years, and am always satisfied. They hold a lot of seedlings, and the pods really help boost the growth of sprouts. I used knock off pods side-by-side with these this year to try and save a few dollars, and even with the same seeds, the Jiffy pods sprouted faster. The Jiffy spouts are healthier-looking, even with added nutrients to the knock-offs. Jiffy pods also soak up and hold water fast and are almost instantly ready to use, where as the knock-offs take forever. I like how the containers can be washed and reused year after year. I do wish, however, that they were made of a sturdier plastic; I have to move the trays carefully when cleaning or re-potting, as they bow in the middle very easily. I even received one once that was cracked in the middle, making it unable to hold water. I also often have to tear the top part of the pod lining in order to fit a growing seedling. Regardless, I have tried other methods and brands throughout the years, and Jiffy just seems to be the better one!

Ordered two of these. One had a cracked corner. A few of the expanding pellets didn't expand very much.

The GOOD: These worked nicely to start my garden plants from seed. Easy to use and all of my seeds successfully grew into beautiful transplantable plants. Once large enough I transplanted them into larger starter pots. The BAD: After transplanting all of the plants into the garden I started noticing die off as the plants grew larger. I dug up all of the dead plants (cukes, cabbage, peppers, cherry tomatoes, cantaloupe) and found that the netting on the dead plants was still tight around the root ball constricting the root growth. I tried to tear the netting with my fingers and it was super tough. I lost around 2 dozen plants because of this. Very disappointed after all of the hard work and nurturing I did starting the plants from seeds. I don't recall any literature that said to tear away the netting before putting into garden. I would recommend doing that to anyone using these. But be very careful not to tear the roots. Not only is the loss of plants upsetting to me, it also concerns me that this netting may be in my garden soil not breaking down. I will not buy again.
