  • Replaces sand as a filter media
  • 50 pounds of ZeoSand is equivalent to 100lbs. Of sand
  • Lasts up to 5 years
  • Catches more particulate than sand and decreases back wash times

All natural ZeoSand weighs half as much as its volume in sand yet is twice as effective. The crystal structure, irregular shell, and high surface area make it a highly effective trap for fine particulates and ammonium ions compared to sand. It takes less ZeoSand to fill a filter - 50 pounds of ZeoSand replaces 100 pounds of sand and makes a far more effective filter media. ZeoSand improves your sand filters performance by trapping more dirt and particles decreasing back wash time. ZeoSand removes eye-burning chloramines so you can enjoy superior water quality while saving energy and reducing chemical usage.

I wanted something that would work better than sand to filter out algae on those times it gets started (like after I come back from vacation) so I went with the Zeo sand. I followed the instructions as I understood, taking care to rinse the material 3x before adding to the filter, then running to waste for 15 minutes. Certainly, this is all a finished commercial product would need to be ready, right? NOT EVEN CLOSE.My fault is that I didn't adequately monitor the color of the rinse water. When I started the filter process, I ended up with a huge cloud of green fog. I attempted to allow it to settle and vacuum, but it kept pouring more silt into the pool. So I let it run for 2 weeks (about 250 hours), drained the pool and tried again. Same result. This time I let it run for 4 months (about 2000 hours), then vacuumed to waste and the water continued to be pea green.I emptied the filter into a wheelbarrow and rinsed until the water turned fairly clear. 22 wheelbarrow loads and about 85-90 gallons of water. Then I refilled the filter and ran to waste for another 45 mins and checked the water clarity. It seemed clear. I setup a PVC pipe return so that the return water would reroute into a bucket so I could make one last check before it went back into the THIRD volume of water. It seemed clear. But my mistake was that I used a white bucket to check the clarity. When I ran it this time, I didn't notice any fog - initially. But 4 hours later I walked out to family and friends lounging on rafts and notice I couldn't see the bottom of the pool very clearly. They hadn't noticed the change, but from beautiful, crystal clear to another blue cloud in 4 hours after 5 hours (this time) of nothing but rinsing the material.I've read the reviews about how wonderful this product is. I would love to have a video on how they managed to get the silt out of the material, because it is a mystery to me.I'm a fairly capable DIY kinda guy, from replacing garage door springs and replacing entry way doors and windows to the house, but Zeosand was my Kryptonite. I've tried for tens of hours to overcome by sheer will and 5000 total gallons wasted (and I HATE wasting water). My recommendation is simply to use sand and spend a little extra time making sure your chemicals are good. Don't walk - RUN away from this product!!

Have used it for a week. The Hayward tank normally requires 200LBs. I'm using 100LBs of Zeosand and pool is very clean.Backwash is about a minute.

I believe overall it will be better than the traditional sand; still too early in the season to posit a critique.
