I needed toMake perfect ovals in a variety of sizes. I thought this would do the trick. Either I misunderstood the directions or my product is faulty. I thought the cutter would go in between each ridge giving me multiple options. But every ridge is sealed. I also had trouble using the cutter on the outer and inner edges as it would tear the card stock vs. a clean cut. I’m not ready to give up on it but it isn’t what I expected. I’d give it 5 stars if the cutter workerMore efficiently and I could use it the way I interpreted the directions. But I am grateful for the two sizes of perfect ovals!

I am very pleased with this set. I am finding a little difficult to go around the corners but that said I am also learning not to press down too hard as it sticks and the blades are sharp enough you do not need a lot of pressure. There is a learning curve for sure but does a great job of making perfect ovals.

I am not great at cutting out circles or ovals. I've tried my hand at it different times - especially cutting out oval mats for pictures. We won't discuss how trying to free hand it with an Exacto knife... So, when I had the chance to try the Fiskars Shapexpress2 Starter Set, I was a bit skeptical. After a couple of tries and figuring out how much pressure, etc. to use with this set - I got some really nice and even professional looking ovals! This set has given me a whole different dimension to my card making and other paper crafts I've been dabbling in. I'm so happy I gave this set a try! Highly recommended!

The knife is sharp and its shape is quite comfortable to hold. It takes some getting used to, but after a bit of practicing, it worked. Using the big knife for free hand cutting requires you to hold it with your whole hand, which makes it for steadier cutting. That was interesting and new way to hold a knife for me.The smaller knife is to be used with the templates. It works pretty well, too.

I have used the Fiskars Ultra ShapeXpress for a few years. It took me a while to get use to maneuvering it. It’s quick and handy when I need a shape and don’t have the time to take out and set up my Circuit or Silhouette machine. Now comes along this new ShapeXpress2, it’s quite different, since you maneuver it more with fingers rather than your entire hand over the top like with the ShapeXpress. Some might like that type of maneuvering better. It took a few tries and then I set out to see if there were any video available on-line, nope it’s that new! So, I emailed Fiskars (love that company for years!). They responded promptly that not were yet available and provided me with an attachment of instructions and a link to a video of the older model, which I already have been using. So, I was in my own for mastering this new model with the little directions on the back. I started with the unit together, found that to be harder to maneuver and resulted in my first try with some tattered edges (definitely better as a utility knife). Then I tried the top part only (they come apart), with that smaller unit it had more control as it rested in the template slots better. It’s quick, but will take a bit of practice to get the hang of it.

If you need to cut perfect ovals, this is a great way to do it. I love how there are 4 sizes so you can even stack the sizes to layer a photo on a color. It works pretty well and is easy to use. I'm sure it works better on some papers than others, but it works well on the sturdy papers I've tried (photos and cover weight stock). I suggest it!

The Fiskars blade starter kit was very exciting to own. I have never worked with fine detail or round cut blades before and I have always been interested. I consider myself to be fairly proficient with many forms of art types and media. While I am not the best and certainly not the oldest creator, I have put a great deal of my life towards art. So beginning down this route of paper crafting was an exciting prospect. It took me maybe an hour or two to fully understand how the little blade set works and what exactly I can play around with while using this tool. I chose to ignore card making for the moment and went with the ovular cut. I used a thin sketch paper to which I regret. It scratched up my desk and didn't even make a perfect cut. I was immediately annoyed but tried again on a different type of paper. This time, I chose a multimedia paper with the water colour preference. It cut much, much, better. I tried out the freestyle option for the blade for my second use by taking it to the paper and 'drawing' a little head. In the included pictures you can see the order of which I tried everything and the difference as I developed an adjustment to the strange shape in my hand. The little freestyle blade is designed for the round knob/blade to snap into place at the top and create a turning point. Then the blade handle is fitted in your hand with the round base against your palm, you can hold the head of the blade with your index and thumb, very akin to a pen or marker. I found it best reminded me of a white out pen. It's a bit choppy to use if you don't know how but as you continue it gets better and better. The knob at the top allows the blade to turn without you moving the paper or readjusting it in your hand. It's a nifty little gadget and I much enjoy it. I find that the circular cutter often jumps when in use with the track and I believe it has to do with the shape of the blade tip, the blade is a triangular cut piece of metal. The front facing part of the blade is smaller and catches easily on paper particles. The rear facing blade is longer and cuts smoother, however, there is no way to make this blade the front facing one unless you move your hand counter clockwise. It becomes irritating and often causes me to slip on the track and ruin he shape. At least with the included freestyle blade, you can fix the errors if you're careful.Another thing I'd like to bring up is that you either have to press hard and cut through the next page or apply just enough pressure and risk not fully cutting through. I find a singular sheet of paper on a non-harming surface works best and if it's possible, tape the corners down so it cannot move.I suggest you remember the use of negative space and it's benefits. This product will definitely be of use in my art career.
