I have purchased WAY MORE EXPENSIVE stripping knives and this one does just as well if not better. Will not break the coat. It is pretty flat but I fixed that by purcasing some "adaptive equipment" foam that you can cut and slide on. The foam is usually used to people with arthritis or those who need to make objects easier to hold.
