Your cart is empty. Grooming a dog before it is bathed is important as it frees up and removes dead undercoat and matting. It allows proper penetration of water and shampoo to the skin. This can be done by using a slicker brush all over its body, especially on the legs, and the places where knotting occurs frequently. Groomers sometimes use a metal comb when combing for the second time, paying more attention to the toes and between the toes. Metal combs can be helpful in the areas of the dog's body that are common spots for knots.

The blades are not sharp enough to cut through actual matted or knotted/tangled fur (nor are they sharp enough to cut anything that I tried: paper, thread, my own thumb). I have a dog who's part Husky, part Chow and with the double-coat of German Shepherd, and he's constantly a mess (he's also covered in very long & frizzy 'feathers'). I have tried everything for sale I could possibly find which is specifically supposed to be for detangling/cutting matted dog hair (none really do anything), and this tool was one of the LEAST effective.

My dog has crazy hair, and this makes it so much easier to keep maintained. It doesn't seem to pull too hard, and I think that it cuts the knots pretty easily without being so sharp that it's dangerous for me or my dog.

I’m a professional dog groomer and these just don’t work for me. the blades are set too far apart and too short, so it hardly ever catches onto mats or knots. I just don’t use it anymore and borrow my coworker’s dematting tools.
