This is what I'd call medium on a scale of "soft to firm" foam rubber. The adhesive on one side is excellent, sticking well to a smooth clean surface. Like most such contact adhesives, it should gain full strength in about 24 hours, but it is quite strong from the get-go. Easy to cut with scissors or utility knife (if using scissors, might be good to wipe the blades with paper towel and a drop or two of oil to keep the adhesive from sticking and gumming up the blades). Anyway, this is handy to have on hand for many projects where temperature, vibration, or noise could be a problem. I'm using this to insulate a Reverse Osmosis water filtration system in an unheated garage (also adding a thermostat and 10-watt reptile heater to protect from freezing). Recommended.

This is a foam, right in the description, and not the "hard" rubber that they also call neoprene. I overlooked that part. This is the type that's easy to press your finger into, so it's more for noise dampening or adapting its form to objects. For example, if you have a box that you have something in, such as router bits, but want to insert a piece or two into the lid to better secure it. Or if you have something that's not too heavy, but that you want to keep from vibrating or making noise, such as a condensate pump. It's good quality, and the adhesive backing is as well.
