I purchased this to use alongside HomeAssistant in my RV for location data. The performance was quite poor, mounted inside a cabinet, connected to a rooftop antenna. It would also overheat and lock up frequently.I eventually replaced it with something else which has worked great for months; and I finally dug into what was going on. From poking around in the firmware; the external antenna is DISABLED. And when attempting to enable it, it refuses. So even though it comes packaged with that fancy external antenna; it's defaulting to the block soldered to the board (the built-in antenna). Really silly, and really poor performing.

I pit this on a Raspberry Pi 5 build that I made into my car's infotainment head unit. I have it running in an AOSP build, using the "GPS Connector" app as a Mock Location App to get the OS to use the coordinate data. This unit works, but it has its quirks and flaws. Firstly, it sucks up a lot of power. Pulling that from the Pi, even with a 5A (closer to 4A, but 5A is the advertised) PSU, it can cause power failures when pulling power from the Pi (granted, the screen is pulling moat of that power, no it just pushes it over the edge). This is likely a build/driver issue, but I also have to disconnect and reconnect it after each boot. It also sometimes needs to be disconnected and reconnected randomly. The included external Antenna did not work at all! It seemed to simply not even register it. I was wondering why I was not getting a fix (with the antenna on the dash and the unit inside the dash), and finally realized that the unit had to have a clear view of the sky to work. So sans-antenna, it's a good unit for the price. Idk if the external antenna would work if I had more control over the serial connection or if it was just broken, but it works fine without it (provided it's properly powered and has a sky view), so idk. Finally, the unit does generate quite a bit of heat, and it lacks any heat dissipation.

Good little USB gps. Works with my Victron Cerbo GX. Comes with a GPS antenna, but I plan on plugging it into my existing Cell/GPS antenna on the roof which has the same connector.

Worked great even indoors didn’t even need all the supplied and included accessories to move the antenna closer to a window. Awesome product at an awesome price.

Purchased as a replacement for a troublesome unit from a different vendor, was surprised by how quickly this GPS locks onto satellites and fixes position. Used with a Raspberry Pi 4 and the Debian flavor Linux for the Pi, this unit was plug and play, no drivers, just install gpsd and any other tools and go. With gpsd working out of the box, no dev/tty configuration needed after connecting GPS via USB. Yes, the dual load of GPS/GLONASS or other potential GNSS combinations of supported geolocation systems must be configured via firmware mods if your region doesn't support them but US/North America. Defaults worked well, no changes were necessary. The integrated antenna is a solid performer indoors and out, the external antenna almost isn't necessary for most needs. Plug and Play for Linux/Pi, fast lockup on location, robust performance indoors and out. Only thing missing? Maybe a 3D printed case for the USB dongle itself for the occasional use it might see plugged into a laptop.

this is absolute GARBAGE. Dont purchase this.. I let it sit outside for almost 12 hours with a clear view of the sky and it will not get a fix on a single satellite.

Getting this set up was extremely simple. There's a URL right on the side of the package that takes you to some very simple, accurate, easy to understand instructions. You get to the download page for the driver and some management software. All of it is simple and straightforward. I installed it all, took the laptop outside, inserted the unit into a USB port, ensured the antenna could see the sky. Within about a minute (which is very fast acquisition), I had multiple satellites and a GPS position. I compared that position with other GPS units I have. Each was slightly different, which, they almost always are. However, they were all within a few meters of one another. Done.Construction of the unit is quite good. You'll probably want to print a 3d cover or something for it because otherwise, it's fairly exposed sticking out the side of my laptop or the Raspberry Pi I also tested this with. Antenna connector worked nicely. I really like the SMA cable and connector for the antenna. It makes it easy to add extensions if needed.Overall, this was just almost plug and play really. I'm happy with the speed, accuracy and response of the unit. Excellent stuff.

I'm using this with an external GPS antenna and it is very fast. To keep the IPEX cable connected, I just taped a small piece of electrical tape over the IPEX cable against the on-board antenna. The board has an on-board green LED to give status. I believe it's just a power LED so it's not related to GPS activity.Using VisualGPS, this module locks on as soon as the app is loaded. Windows 10 will install the driver automatically so there's no tweaking required. Just use 9600 baud on the assigned COM port (after driver install.) You can use it with many other software packages as well. Use serial input.
