Actual Socket Diameter of a 1" PVC Tee Fitting
Why is are PVC fitting sockets bigger than their named size?
PVC sizes get their name from the inner diameter of the PVC pipe as they are nominal, or 'in name only'. If you add the thickness of the wall on each side of the pipe, the outside diameter of the PVC pipe will always be larger that the actual PVC size.
What will this 1" PVC Tee fit?
Important PVC Size Information
This 1" Tee Furniture Grade PVC Fitting will fit over the end of standard 1" Size Schedule 40 plumbing-grade or Furniture Grade PVC pipe, which has an outside diameter of 1.315" or 1-5/16".
- Connects up to three (3) 1" PVC pipe segments to mount and build walls, scaffoldings, and crossbars.
- Pipe inserts inside of the fitting.
- Fits standard 1" Schedule 40 PVC pipe.
- Not compatible with CTS or CPVC style pipe, EMT conduit or wood dowels.
How to Use Standard PVC Tee Fittings
When to use PVC Tees in your Project
Furniture Grade 3-Way PVC Tees connect up to three (3) segments of PVC pipe to build walls, scaffoldings, and crossbars. PVC pipe can be inserted directly into each socket, creating a perfectly flat, heavy-duty T connection.
Insert the PVC Pipe into the Tee Fitting
Cut your PVC pipe segments to size, align the PVC pipe with the PVC Tee socket and press it into place. Repeat for the other two sockets. If preferred, you can use clear PVC cement for a secure and permanent fit: Apply a small amount inside the Tee PVC fitting before insertion.
Tap into Place until Fully Seated in the Tee
Tap each PVC pipe until it is fully seated inside the Tee fitting. The pipe should be inserted until it hits the stop or detent inside the fitting. You can then use the PVC Tee in the remainder of your PVC project or build.

I used these to build a utility bar for my wheelchair that was lightweight and removable using only one hand. Not the usual application I believe but it worked and I'm pleased with the result. I added a pair of brackets to a custom set of portable grab bars I designed for my wheelchair to hold the utility bar. The utility bar itself is relatively simple (picture attached) but quite sturdy and convenient (picture of chair attached)

Works great to build a tomato raised bed netting trellis ....... See the pic ......I didn't use PVC pipe cement and I was able to build two tiers up to total 8 feet in height of bird netting since the netting is light. I will be able to disassemble in late fall and put into the shed. So far after 4 weeks, and 5 strong rain wind storms none of the structure has come apart. I used 3/8 inch green velcro tape, with one end cut to a V point to tie the netting to the green PVC pipe.

I bought these to use to build an outdoor chicken coop. They have been sturdy so far and a perfect fit for 1" pipes. The coloring is also fantastic and has yet to lose its coloring despite being exposed to the sun and elements the last few months. I like these fittings a lot more than the generic ones you can find at Home Depot mainly because these line up with the other Formufit fittings.
