Actual Dimensions of 1-1/2" Size PVC Pipe
Why are PVC pipe diameters larger than their named size?
PVC sizes get their name from the inner diameter of the PVC pipe (not the outside diameter) as they are nominal or 'in name only. If you add the thickness of the wall on each side of the pipe, the outside diameter of the PVC pipe will always be larger that the actual PVC size.
What will this 1-1/2" PVC pipe fit?

This Furniture Grade PVC pipe will fit inside of standard 1-1/2" Size Schedule 40 plumbing-grade or Furniture Grade PVC fittings. This pipe has an outside diameter of 1.900" or 1-7/8".
