The Forney 45461 Super Ni-Cast 55-percent nickel is the ultimate rod for all known grades of cast iron. Great for joining heavy or thin sections to steel. The computer controlled coating produces welds that represent the optimum balance between tensile strength and machinability. Typical applications include welding grades 30, 40 and 50 gray cast irons - all thicknesses in all positions. These welding rod are of a good quality but the packaging is of poor quality . The welding rod arrived in a non sealed packaging and rod arrived humid. Before using these rod they needed to be heated to be dried out.

I used them as is the first time. The flux made it hard to see. So I stripped the flux off and used them as TIG rods. It was my first cast iron repair and it was successful.

Not that there's anything wrong with these 55% nickel, doing cast iron on vertical face @ horizontal crack, these do not work well. I hopefully get some new rods that work better.

Not a professional welder. But used this to weld the tubes to the housingon a 2004 2500 14 bolt rear axleNot easy to hold a good weld pool. Definitely takes practice
