I needed a way to protect my young 4th season nectarine trees this spring. Last year I only got 7 nectarines and well before they were ripe, birds or squirrels took them all. This protection bag has a a drawstring at the bottom so I can tighten it to stay in place. In case I’d like to access any fruit, there is a large side zipper which is convenient and a good design so I don’t have to take the whole thing off and then put back on. I opened it up next to my bitty tree and the material is sheer and feels strong. I will wait to put in on my trees after they are done flowering and start to grow fruit.

Deer are the scourge of the suburban gardener. More than any other critter, they have killed my plantings and fruit trees, or severely set them back every year by munching the growing tips and leaves. I ordered these netting bags to see if they'll prevent deer damage. The bags are a fine mesh and let in light, air and water. Hopefully, they can stay on the whole growing season, since my trees are still young and branches are easily within deer's reach.Don't expect the bags to be round like the pictures. They have no shape of their own and will hang straight down unless you have a wire cage or some other structure. The innovation here is the zippered side. This makes it easier to put the bag on and take off.

I have battled bad bugs this summer (unusual), but these fit my 5-tier AeroGardens perfectly. Bye bye bugs!

If you have fruit trees, and want to keep the birds out, this netting is very good. You will want to look for the products that have a zipper and a separate draw string with two plastic cinch pieces. This will allow you to access the tree when the netting is in place.ProTip: Use a 10’ PVC pipe to lift the netting over the tree with the zipper open. This will often help with netting that does not have a zipper to get it over the tree.ProTip: Use a to write the netting size on the corner with the zipper. Not all of the dimensions on the nettings are correct, so having the actual size will help when pulling them out of storage. I fold them up and clip them with a binder clip, otherwise they become unfolded very quickly. The problem with these products is they are sized and shaped incorrectly. They are made in the shape of a rectangle bag, and they need to be made like a cylinder with a flat top. The ideal design would be a circle top (single piece) with a side curtain that hung down, overall shaped like a cylinder. Here are the numbers... If you have a tree with a 8 foot diameter canopy, that means the average branch only sticks out 4' from the trunk. That is not very long or big for a tree. If you have that size tree, the distance around the tree is 8' * 3.14 == 25.13' That means you would need a 12' x 10' tree bag because the 12' wide is actually two lengths of fabric to open up to a 24' long continuous piece of netting, surrounding the perimeter of the tree. This is not perfect because it is stitched together along a 12' seam at the top of the netting which prevents it from forming a nice circle around your tree. That top part should ideally be a separate piece of netting in the shape of a circle. In other words these tree nettings are not really the correct shape for a tree. What a shame that all of these are copies of single bad designs. You need to understand that you must upsize the netting to be 50% more than your tree. So a 8' tree needs a 12' tree cover; a 4' tree needs a 6' tree cover. What I actually do is get 2x the size of the tree because trees are ultimately going to get bigger and you can always use the larger size. Here are some of the larger nettings that I have found on Amazon: + {{ASIN:B0CX91DLWF 12' x 10' Tree cover (Slow shipping)]] + + + + Realize that bugs are not able to go through the fine mesh, so expect to find a few dead bugs on the inside of the netting that get trapped. We have used [ASIN:B09XBKKFVN Bird netting with a 3/4" square mesh]], which bugs can get through, but it ends up with dead lizards that get tangled in the nearly invisible nylon mech. I'd like to find a mesh weave that was ⅜” instead of this sub-millimeter mesh, or a bird netting that is about 1 1/2" to keep out the smaller birds which effortlessly go through the 2" bird netting. We use binder clips to close the bottom of the nets (when the draw string is not enough) as the birds here in Arizona are very clever to find any holes you may have in the netting. Other problems with the birds here in Arizona is they often walk along the ground under the shade of the trees looking for bugs, and will get into the tree under the netting if you only drape it over the top. In California, the birds seem to not rely on the shade as much and usually stay off of the ground.Make sure to get netting with zipper and separate plastic cinches.PROs:+ Protects fruit+ Lizard safeCONs:- Upsize the dimensions to correctly fit your tree by at least 50%- Mesh is too small to let bugs out

I saw mention in the product description that it could be used to protect tomato plants. And last year, some very annoying scrub jays pecked at my ripening brandywine tomatoes before I could pick them. Upon examining the netting, they felt like nicely made netting material with a convenient zipper and drawstring. Placing the netting over my young tomato plants with tomato support ladders was very easy. But the problems were that my indeterminate tomato plants quickly outgrew the netting and were more suitable for short bushlike varieties. The netting also made it harder for pollinators like bumblebees to reach the flowers. In the end, I found it more effective to use individual fruit protection bags to place around the developing clusters of tomatoes. This is not the fault of the product, I realize, rather it was my poor use of the product.

My chicken loves blueberries so I knew I had to do something to protect my bushes if I wanted to get any fruit for myself. While it annoyed my chicken, this did stop her from stealing them. Don't worry I did share the bounty with her.

I used these all season and have put them away for use again next year. They've been fantastic for keeping the cicadas and chickens off my tomatoes. The set comes with four pieces of garden bird netting, each measuring 3.3 x 2.6FT, which fit perfectly over my plants. The zipper feature and drawstring make them easy to install and adjust as needed. They've done an excellent job protecting my tomatoes from insects and animals, ensuring a healthy and bountiful harvest. If you're looking for an effective way to safeguard your plants, these net bags are a great choice. Highly recommended for their durability and practicality!
