Developed in collaboration with the National Gallery of Art, Gamvar goes on water-clear, stays water-clear and can be easily and safely removed with Gamsol. It is virtually odorless and ready to apply. It can be applied when the thickest areas of your painting are thoroughly dry and firm to the touch.

I was wanting a varnish or medium that would dry matte or even satin. This is super glossy even when fully dry. I want a refund!

It definitely leaves a white residue once it dries. I saw a few other reviews saying the same thing. I even shook the bottle up before hand to see if that would help. Just for reference I use Daler and Rowney liquid acrylics on thicker paper, specifically for acrylics. I did a test strip and compared it to the Gamvar Satin...it definitely leaves a white residue. So for now I'll be sticking with the Satin, which I have never had any issues with.

We've tried a few different varnish products and Gamblin is a good name. However we just didn't feel good with this one, so we moved on to Grumbacher. Probably a fine product, just not right for us.

I've used GAMVAR for oil paintings. However, I recently had to stain some new bathroom wall tiles to match the existing, older tiles. Wasn't sure that varnishing the tiles with gamvar would actually hold once the grout was put in, but it did!! The stain didn't bleed and I was VERY happy with the results. This stuff goes on clear and is wonderful!

I am first time user of it. It worked nice but as shown, it caused some color to get removed and that looks lime patches on painting. I am not too sure why is that happening
