The Gamma clamp has always been my go-to for buying a starter clamp. It really holds the strings in place and easy to use. 10/10 recommend.

So i bought a Pro's Pro starting clamp and it just wasn't up to the job. It was very cheap. My mistake.This Gamma one is so much better. It never slips (unlike the Pro's Pro) and is much better built.Worth the extra money.

Once you start using it, it is hard to imagine why you didn't use it before. I find it really useful for starting the mains while making sure I don't have any slippage at the first clamp. I mainly bought it so I could use the Yusuki method for starting the mains. You get a much more reliable tension on your mains this way. Also useful for tying knots.

Great addition if you are getting into stringing your own racquets. I am not sure if it really saves that much time, but it is more of a convenience and extra tool for many situations. I use it to start the Yusuke method, but what I love most is I can save myself extra string by using it at the end of a string that is not long enough to wrap around the ratcheting tensioner. I think that alone makes this purchase worth it. Otherwise it's main purpose I believe is to prevent slippage when starting (obviously) with two floating clamps on a drop weight.

The truth is that you cannot really do a good job at stringing your mains without a starting clamp. Particularly when using a machine with flying clamps. I honestly would not recommend doing so. I get fairly uniform tension from my mains using this clamp on a Gamma X2 machine. It's also excellent for tying knots, of course. This clamp is small, light, easy to use (no calibration required for strings of different thickness) and does not leave any marks on my 18 gauge co-poly strings. Highly recommended!
