Mine came in working condition and worked fine as it did if it was back in the day. My only complaint is the charger. Had to order a usb charger so that I wouldn't have to keep using my car, also you may need a usb one anyway to connect to your computer and update the maps. These things are old but are definitely worth it if your phone gps fails.

Although I doubt that it came as new as was told because first it started in spanish and also I did not get free update after registering. Garmin told me that this nuvi get the satelite signal in year 2009.Although co. provided me the link for free update but somehow it did not updated because even after updating the Garmin website says new update available. Same goes witht software upgrade. No matter how many times I did upgrade, it always said new software version available.I took a trip to Orlando and it worked perfectly as we expect to do. Only issue is that it did not come with the mini USB cable to connect to your computer. Normally Garmin provides one with their product. Also they are not providing the user manual which you have to download from web site and print it for handy reference. Don't understand why they have given feature as 'EcoRoute' because it does track of the milage. I did not understand that after setting up via point and reaching there how the trip continues, if I have to stop my navigator. For the price you pay, it is good choice.

I used this GPS last week for a trip to Albuquerque, NM and found it was awesome. Not only it is light, but it works perfectly, and accurately for auto and walking as well. I drove on the Highway 14 from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and it gave me very reliable advise, including those ghost towns. It is much beter than Nuvi 255w I purchased last spring for a trip to Orlando. The GPS 255w worked terribly, frequently providing wrong and incorrect routes, or very long and inconvenient ways.In my opinion, this set is nice with a price around $110 at Amazon (cheapest). There is no big difference between 3.5 or 4.3 inch display, and no need for bluetooth if you have a cell phone, or ipod. The only thing I was not satisfied is there is no USB cable for connecting to computer, and there is no wall power adaptor included in the box. However, I used my cell phone's cable and power adaptor for Nuvi 1200.

I can understand that some people want a lot out of a GPS that costs over a hundred dollars. Fine, but for those who want to open the box, plug the unit into the car and go, this is more than just fine. My older Garmin was Black and White, small and tech-heavy, in that you had to install software on your computer and then load maps onto your unit with a USB cable that at the time was still supplied by Garmin. If you had that cable, or you bought one, you could use it to register your nuvi 1200 and maybe get some new firmware from Garmin. But if you're looking for map updates, be aware that a new CD with updated map info, or an internet download (I'd choose the CD just in case of a computer crash) costs a lot more than I expected. So much so, that I think I'll just let this unit become obsolete and then buy a new one with updated maps.Back to this unit. The thing is dead simple to operate. All you do, is use the touch screen to choose between favorites, points of interest and so on to get started to where you're going. The process is about as intuitive as it gets. Moreover, the degree of sophistication is several levels above my older one. This will find out of the way golf courses and other such destinations that you absolutely had to have an address for with my old one. As for addresses, just about all GPS units need an address that employs the actual town or city your destination is actually in. That means, for instance that if your looking for an address in Chicago for a location that's actually in a Chicago suburb, you're probably going to have trouble keying that destination into your unit.Once you get the address in, you just go. If you come to a traffic jam, you can back your unit up one screen and choose the detour icon. For those more into the tech aspect, you can go in a couple of menu levels and choose to not travel on toll roads or even interstates in case you want to take the most scenic route. You can even choose to use the route the Garmin unit thinks will be the most "green." Good for those trying to save the environment or money or maybe both.I'd buy it again. And I wouldn't worry much about map updates.
