This is my second thermometer. The only reason I needed to get a new one is because I scooped up all this stuff on the counter and put it in the sink with water. I didn’t realize my thermometer was in there. So I decided to just get the same one I had since I liked it. I’ve have the first one for quite a wile. Well I did at least. A reasonable price too. Suits me fine.

Does a great job. I use it mainly for cooking chicken. Love that it's digital and accurate. Easy to use and has lasted a few years so far. No issues.

This is a better instant ready than I can find in the stores. It is my 2nd one in this brand and it quickly gets to temp.

In my opinion, this thermometer is a great value for the price. Some of the instant read thermometers on the market cost 2 to 3 times what I paid for this one, and they're not worth the extra money for all you get with this one. This has a large display, and backlight which make it very easy to read, even for a guy like me who uses reading glasses. I have no problem reading the temp with or without my glasses on. I used the calibration function and have found it to be very accurate. When it tells me my grilled chicken is done, it's done. When it tells me my steak is medium-rare, it is. Are there thermometers out there that give you a faster reading? Yeah, probably. But this one gives me a stable temp reading after 3-4 seconds and that's plenty fast for my purposes, especially considering, like I said it would cost 2-3 times more to get that speed. It even ships with a spare battery, so you don't have to worry about it not being ready when you need it. The magnet is a nice feature too, along with the temps for different doneness printed on the front. I'm glad I bought this, and would recommend it.

This instant read thermometer works wonderfully to give a quick read for meat on the grill. It is also handy for testing the bathwater temperature for our 3 month-old grandson when he came for a visit! Very multi-purpose! The only slightly odd thing is that the thermometer, while it looks exactly like the Gdealer one in the photo, is missing the Gdealer brand name and the printing on the on thermometer is slightly different.

I originally bought a different meat thermometer but returned it because it was inaccurate. This one is accurate, and the display is much better and easier to read. But the most important feature of this is that it senses and displays the temp quickly. This is important when you've got the oven door open, as the oven is cooling off. The other one took a considerably longer time to settle out. Overall, this one is much nicer to use, easier to read, has a few nicer features and in general works better. The other one was $10. I paid $16 for this, and in my view it's well worth 6 more bucks. This one does have a calibration function. It's a rudimentary single point calibration using an ice water bath, but it's a lot better than most of these inexpensive thermometers that have no calibration at all. The instruction sheet says it's calibrated out of the box, and so I tested it - indeed it was pretty good. Be aware that if you're a stickler, you should use distilled water and ice made from distilled water; impurities in the water depress the equilibrium temperature of an ice water bath. In my case, using tap water, it read the bath as 31.6 degrees F. I have no doubt that using pure water and ice, it would probably be much closer. I didn't adjust the calibration. Most of these, including this one, have a probe that necks down at the tip to make it easier to insert into the food. It helps, especially with a steak. On this one, there's a little plastic nibs on the red part so that when you fold it, it snaps into place. It's a little hard to un-snap the probe. However, the solution is, don't fold the probe until it snaps. The unit shuts off long before the probe is folded that much, so there's not much point to snapping it into place. You could also slice the little nibs off with a utility knife if you wanted. It would take about 5 seconds (be careful not to hurt yourself!!)There is a magnet intended to let you stick the thing onto your oven. My oven is stainless steel, and apparently it's 300 series stainless because the magnet is completely ineffective. The thermometer does stick to my coffee maker and Instant Pot, however, LOL. If your oven is enameled or painted, it will hang on to it just fine... if you want it to, that is.There's a chart on the backside with temperatures for beef, lamb, pork, chicken, turkey and fish. I don't use the chart... I use different temperatures, depending on what I'm doing. But it's there if you want or need it.I can't comment on the longevity until I've used it for at least a few months, but temperature reading involves very simple electronics. My only concern is the folding probe, I don't know how they designed this, but if it involves a moving wire, then that's probably going to be the failure point.I like it. If it lasts, it's well worth the $16.

This is a pretty nice thermometer. Long stainless steel probe. Large display with optional back light, user calibration, and quick temp read is what I was looking for. To my disappointment, I discovered there is no apparent way to manually power off, other than to fold in the probe. I’m planning to use it for checking mash & wort temps on brew days, and I would leave the probe unfolded and submerged in a cup of sanitizer. It’s too much of a hastle to have to keep folding and unfolding it. It also is pretty tight, so some force is needed to open and close it. I can feel the probe flex when doing this, so there is potential for bending, or breaking off the plastic neck that holds the probe, with repeated use. It does have a 10 minute auto-off, and it can be powered back on with the push of a button, but it’s just a huge waste of battery life. I would be checking temps a half dozen times, every 10-15 minutes, so that’s probably an hour or so that this thing would be powered on, for no reason other than that it lacks a convenient button to turn it off.
