About this item

  • Has a fine-tooth ratcheting lock
  • Set includes pliers and 6 bands
  • Pliers can be used parallel or perpendicular to the cylinder block

From the Manufacturer

This quality set includes pliers and 6 bands. It installs pistons from 2-7/8 to 4-3/8" (73mm to 111mm). Set works by placing a band around the piston, covering the rings and hooking pliers into the band, then squeezing. With the band lightly around the piston, insert piston into cylinder and tap lightly with hammer handle to install. The Fine-tooth ratcheting lock allows you to compress bands in small increments. The great thing is the pliers can be used parallel or perpendicular to the cylinder block.

Used this to compress the rings on my 110" Harley. Worked perfectly. Bands are thick enough to hold their shape and still be able to get them out from around the connecting rod and cylinder studs. Bosses on the bands are very sturdy. Ratchet holds firmly and the teeth are fine enough for a not too loose, not too tight adjustment. I highly recommend this for Harley work.

I needed this tool for a toyota 1FS engine and it worked great. I'm sure the kit will last a long time not being used everyday.

Well made, sturdy for compressing very stiff rings. Allows good control to get the needed compression yet let the piston slide through. One odd thing is the coating seems to be paint, which the rings will scrape. I just accepted that a few paint flakes won’t harm pistons, rings and cylinders.

This set is well made solid tool steel. It will not loose its shape any soon. Here are my comments:Comes with a nice case, although re-inserting all the rings back is a hassle. The ratcheting handle works efficiently and does not slip. For most US rebuilds, like an SBC 350 you'll need only one ring that goes to 4 1/8" inches. Thus far, that too grabbed the piston fine. However, insertion into the cylinder requires a little finesse; first do not tightly squeeze the ring. Leave it as tight as it goes with the ratchet. Second, when tapping the piston down also tap along the sides of the ring. You do this because, depending of how you are holding the ratchet, it may lift the ring just a little and the oil-scraper ring will pop out. If you keep that in mind you'll be OK. WORK SLOWLY AND REMEMBER TO WORK SLOWLY!

Very nice set. Wanted a tool suite that would allow me to use in multiple positions and be able to use on pistons still connected to the connecting rods. Works great. Good tool investment for sure.

I have used the cylinder type of ring compressors for some time. I was rebuilding an engine that was sleeved and the pistons were a tight fit. I couldn't get the rings compressed enough to go down the sleeve with the cylindrical type compressor. I found some other compressors that were $100+. Trying to save some money, I took a chance on this one, and it works flawlessly. I can drop a piston down into the cylinder nearly four times as fast as I could with the cylindrical compressor as the ratcheting handle only takes a squeeze or two to completely compress the rings. Using the cylindrical compressor, I would be fighting the ratcheting handle trying to completely compress the rings, and what a pain if there is a little oil on my hands. I should have purchased this years ago.
