My very old Genie automatic garage door opener started smoking one day and stopped upon opening. I saw where the smoke was coming from which was the capacitor. I located the part number off the old unit, found this replacement unit, and when it arrived, I installed it. Very simple. The garage door is now opening and closing and has been since the installation.

Quickly resolved the issue with non-working garage door opening. A quick YouTube search pointed me in the right direction - easily installed and cost a fraction of a service call by my locak Overhead Door guys.

Great item! The ease of installation will vary depending on the model of opener you have – on the Overhead Door Legacy (made by Genie) it was quite involved: I had to take apart the entire housing to get good access to the capacitor, which was a pain.A couple of tips on installation: take pics as you go, and be mindful of the "pimple" location of the old one – install the new one with the same pimple orientation and you'll have the correct polarity.A $20 DIY repair that saved me at least $100... so in my mind I made $100 an hour while repairing my door – not too shabby! And I got a workout without paying a trainer. A leg raise is somehow less laborious when you’re involved in a purpose. Makes me want to paint the house. Just kidding. And fwiw, I think I burned out my old capacitor while lubricating my door and running the door up and down repeatedly after lubricating. Any time you have a system failure with your home, you need to completely identify the cause. If you don’t, you'll be doing the repair again in time.Speaking of lubricating your door, I use liquid Dupont Chain-Saver on the chain, hinges, and wheels, and then spray the tracks with the spray version. Chain-Saver is wax-based, so it doesn't collect dirt like oil will, and it contains Teflon. It lasts a very long time after lubrication. Best of all, my two-car insulated door is silent as can be!. Chain Saver is available on Amazon, but you may have to search local bike shops or auto parts supply shops for the spray version. Buy the largest amount you can, because you'll find a lot of uses for this great lubricant.

This item fits exactly like the OEM part and worked immediately after connecting the wires and I turned on the power. Saved me from having to replace the opener, which would have created a major hassle since the new openers are longer and a new opener would interfere with my attic access door. Hopefully it will last a long time. Time will tell.

This item worked really well. However, when we were trying to install it, we had concerns about the polarity. My husband had to keep looking and marking and re-checking because its not obvious. But, the garage door works!
