I got this for my mom so she would not have to open her garage door by hand. Installation was simple and the instructions were good. The unit itself is a very basic opener but that is what I wanted for my mom (less to potentially go wrong). I was surprised at how quiet it is - added bonus really.

I bought this months ago but waited for the weather to get a little warmer before installing it. The instructions were a bit wonky but it wasn't hard to figure out how it all went together and once installed and adjusted it worked flawlessly. It's a chain drive but it's actually quieter than my previous opener which was a belt drive.

We had a motor on our garage door going out. Amazon had the replacement at a great price, and I had two handyman neighbors. We got together one afternoon, and installed it. It's so quite. It's a dream. The instructions were easy to follow. I saved a lot of money and grief in the process.

Had 2 Craftsman openers that were 22 years old, when one failed (gear shaft bearing broke). Decided to replace both, and could not be happier with choice of Genie models. Previous units were 1/2 HP, and new units are also 1/2 HP. More than enough oomph to lift single, 80 lbs doors each. When deciding between belt drive and chain drive, you need to also take into account noise sources from doors, tracks and rollers. If these are noisy, paying more for the quiet belt option is wasting money. These chain drive units are exceptionally quieter than the older chain models, that I don't know how much quieter they could get with belts. Installation was a breeze. Instructions exactly depicted steps involved in installing. Was able to reuse the ceiling mounting brackets and down-braces, although these units were shorter and narrower than Craftsman units, so the down-braces are slightly canted in and forward. Units do not come with outdoor keypads, which is a good thing (not needed). Installed MyQ sensors and app on cell phone to control from outside when necessary. Syncing sensors to openers was a breeze. Only anomaly during installation was that one of the obstruction sensors mounted near the floor kept flashing red, but after everything was finished, it corrected itself and works fine now. Was able to reuse the door mounting bracket and L-bar that hooks the trolley to the door, saving a little effort during install. Be careful when setting up and down travel limits; it is possible to drive the trolley into the opener when setting up limit (i.e. going for max opening height). All in all, clearly a 5 star winner.

I spent the time to install Genie model 1035 only to find that it has at least 2 major problems:1. It goes into “thermal overload” very easily. 3 open/close cycles in a 6 minute period is enough to consistantly put it out of comission until it cools off. This is while operating a well balanced, relatively lightweight 7’ high by 8’ wide steel door and garage temperatures in the mid 70’s.2. The blockage sensing is hypersensitive. There is a slight rough spot where there is a transition between sections of our garage door tracks. Even when set to use “maximum force” it stops and reverses there at least half the time.Additionally there is another not so serious problem - there is enough slop between sections of the opener track that the track bows to one side, causing the chain to run against one side of the track during operation. I’m not sure if this will cause premature wear or not but it’s certainly less than ideal.I’ve done my own garage door work for years and also help family members with theirs and this is by far the weakest “1/2 horsepower” garage door opener I have run across. The only good thing is Genie’s installation instructions are excellent. It’s a small consolation since I’m going to have to take it back down, return it and put in something better :(. The only thing I would change about the directions is to put the information on how to locate the transmitters and receivers on multi-door applications on the installation sheet rather than in a later, easily missed part of the owners manual.

If you only use your door twice a day great product. I’d go with a little better one if your in and out lots during the day.Simple to instal.

My previous opener (different model) decided to shred its workings so a quick purchase of this moderately priced unit brought the product to my door in only a few days. Very straight forward instructions and easy assembly. Able to use existing wiring and ceiling mounting hardware so a fairly short installation time with basic tools. Programming was dead simple. Unit runs smooth and quiet.

I am so very pkeased to have ths installed. Now, instead of having to manually push open the garage door, I just need to push a button. It works wonderfully well I love it.
